Just thought i would make a few comments about what i saw during today's game and would like to hear what you all have to say as well...

- the first team offense looked pretty good, especially if you take into account that they have only had about a week of camp leading up to this game
the play calling hasnt changed much, a lot of tight end dumps and wide receiver screens and curls, but they were effective for the most part

-alge looked solid today, and i have high hopes for nate washington after i saw him go across the field, leaving his defender in the dust and catching a ball for a 10-15 yard gain, we havent really had a receiver that can get much separation and i think he can be that guy for us

- the offensive line and cj didnt start off too well, he was hit in the backfield in his first 3 runs, but it looked like they just started to get things going on the first team's final drive where lendale took it in for the score

- defensively, its hard to judge too much the first team cuz all i saw were a few completions to owens and a slip by nick harper that allowed a catch, but the pick by griffin was nice and vickerson definitely was haynesworth-like on that play, pushing his defender into the qb forcing an inaccurate pass

- WAY too many penalties, though its somewhat reassuring that there were nowhere near as many during the first quarter when most of our starters were in, but im sure fish, dinger, and cecil will get that straightened out

-great play by mccourty on the interception, great read, looked like he may have that ball-hawk instinct that griff has

-vince young was much less than impressive in his first 2 or 3 drives, especially that horrific interception on a pass intended for hawk, regardless of whether he ran the wrong route, u dont throw a lollipop like that in the nfl and expect to be a good quarterback
however, the throw and catch to paul williams for the td was a thing of beauty, and that scoring drive was solid
i am looking forward to his next game to evaluate his progression further, and definitely acknowledge that he was backed up to his own endzone for a few of his drives, but thats part of being a good quarterback - move the chains and get the ball out of there

-vickerson and birdine both impressed me with their motors, but i hope that they can control their passion and avoid stupid penalties

- cook looked pretty good on his few touches and i definitely cant wait to see britt out there

I just added some similar thoughts on the OGT thread. I agree :-).

The thing I noticed the most?

Any pundit that thinks the Bills are a playoff team took some good drugs. Owens gave them some publicity, but they are awful in the trenches. No one on their D will scare a OC at all and I can picture several parties occurring in the Bills' backfield.

I thought the first unit showed why they had a few pro bowlers - they looked sharp minus a shaky few first runs by CJ.

Best news? I didn't see a Titan carted off the field. That's better than a useless pre-season W. :toast

I'll talk sum RBs
1. thing i noticed that i dont see people talkin about is the fact that Ringer had a few chances to "finish" a run but instead just kinda slowed down and folded. I believe one was on a screen play.

2.With that said i thought Little was running pretty hard, even though it was in garbage time and they knew we were running.

3. CJ seemed like he had trouble reading holes, a few times it seemed like a hole was their but he chose to cut it back or outside away from it.

4. Those 2 carries by White inside the ten we're very explosive runs. he hit the hole very quick. Thats the 1st thing i noticed a second after he got the ball. Hopefully that translates to the regular season.

5. I see alot of people bashing Henry for a few things. 1- he dropped that pass from Young, well beings that on a screen pass u basically sell a block then turn around and EXPECT your QB to be able to throw a 5 yard pass w/accuracy, which it wasnt. Now the catch was very possible but henry was just standing their like he was suppose to waiting for the ball and Young threw a dart about 3 yards outta his catch zone. So i say more Youngs fault than any. 2- then i see people bashing him for that run where he didnt break that final tackle for the score. Ok we can nit pick, but that run he had was very nice, he saw the hole he was running to was blocked, so he cut back, made a guy miss in the back field, then broke another tackle then got brought down. But if we're gonna bash him for not finishing the TD run and breaking the final tackle, i should see way more people saying the same thing about white from past years, cuz for as big as he is/was he didnt break nearly enough tackles in teh open field as he should have

Haha.

But I agree with him for the most part. VY's screen pass may have hit Henry's hands... but those hands were also outstretched to their limit try to corral in a floater of a screen pass.

My problem with Henry was the times he just ran up a linemans ass and churned his legs. Pretty sure he isn't gonna get anywhere like that, but if he does, he is gonna stink like crap and have one pissed off lineman.

only time i remember him "running into the line" was when he tried to cut it outside but there was a guy waiting there for him, so instead he planted and just went up field with it. Which if i was a coach that is what i would teach a RB, when in doubt run north and south, and drive those legs.

That run by C Hen where he planted and went the other direction for like 20yds was nice.
