Titans coach Jeff Fisher has made it clear to Vince Young. If the young quarterback wants to play, he's going to have to earn his job back.
Standing in the way is Kerry Collins, whom Tennessee re-signed to a two-year, $15 million deal with $8.5 million guaranteed -- and he's coming back as the starter. Young remains under contract for three more seasons, and the Titans hope he'll be motivated to improve.
"Vince is in a situation now where he will have to do everything he possibly can to earn his job back," Fisher said at the NFL owners' meetings in California. "That starts with the offseason commitment."
per ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4025663)
Some more interesting points:
"Kerry is returning as our starter. If for some reason Vince has a great camp and Kerry hits a wall, I'm talking about a hypothetical, but there is always that possibility," Fisher said.
I don't know that we have many VY fans here, so I'll fill in for them: This statement could mean that there will be a legitimate competition for the starting job in camp, and it's not just going to be handed on a platter to KC like we all assume. Or it could be Fisherspeak... you decide.
Also:
They lost Chris Simms to Denver in free agency, so the Titans are looking to bring in an experienced quarterback. They brought Patrick Ramsey in for a visit earlier this month, and will add someone to the roster before training camp in July.
"We've always had three quarterbacks in camp, so yes there will be a third quarterback in camp," Fisher said. "I would expect a veteran."
I shudder to think who this 3rd QB might be.

I sure wish VY would light the playing field up, I have a couple of his "unsigned" jerseys. hey maybe that's his problem, he hasn't signed my jerseys yet. Someone get the word to him, if he wants to start, he must sign Pop's jerseys.......... yep that's the problem......... yeh right.......... sarcasm........

You know, I've heard this news before. Maybe a week or more ago. I have no idea why it's being rehashed.

oh i guess so someone else can report it beside wyatt.

from march 6.
one i guess it depends on how you define wall.
if kerry just totally falls apart for a couple of preseason games and cant comeplete any passes.
or refuses to go back into a game.
oh yeah they have had three qb's but if they bring in another vet with some serious starting experience.. things get more interesting.
the other thing is as long as vince is here then fisher almost has to say this stuff.
he cant come out and say well yes vince has totally blown his chance and we are just keeping him around due to the cap hit and it is so hard to admit this kind of failure on a third pick.
so he throws it into vince's court.

I still hold out some form of hope that VY can get his poop in a group. Whether I'm grasping for strings or it's a legit chance that he gets it back together, I dunno.
I hope for his sake he makes it back, because I can't see him amounting to anything if he doesn't make it in the NFL (or any football league, for that matter).
I agree with you BC... I just dont know how much longer I wait for this grouping to take place.

Vince is like my retirement portfolio. He showed amazing gains over the years and it was hoped that the trend would continue forever. That trend, however, took an abrupt downturn and many of the earlier gains were lost. Some analysts predict that he will recover, but the question is when.

I like going into the off season with KC as our "official" starting QB. Having said that, I think it should still be an open competition. If Vince comes into camp and just tears it up while KC is playing below par, then Vince should get his chance to start. He's got his work cut out for him and still has to win back the respect of his teammates and step into the leadership role.

Well yea, of course he has to earn his job back. Any starter in the NFL has had to earn their spot. This isn't a league you can just wish for something and it happens. WORK makes things happen. I mean look at Collins for instance. He waited and waited and then when his chance came up, he acted and took advantage of it with productive play. Vince went down with an injury, and Kerry did what he was suppose to do. I cant wait to see Vince back under center for us, but right now Collins is doing a nice job. I'm pumped for the new season with Collins starting. I like Young, but love the team more. Vince could benefit from playing No. 2 for a bit. It seems to be bringing out the best in Vince. Hopefully come his time to shine, he will. Were just gonna have to wait and see.

One thing is clear...we can talk peacefully about VY, without the Texas fans in here.

Is it strange that I miss the daily Wildcat / "X" (scapegoat) is the reason VY fails threads?
I haven't seen a shower of facepalm/FAIL pictures in a while.

I'm a Texas fan, kinda. I'm not big on college football really and I only took an interest in Texas after VY was there. I've been a Titans fan since we were the Oilers in Houston. I actually grew up in Aggie country. So I'm a total bandwagon hopper in that sense.
I think the argument has been made for both sides so for the time being, I'm just waiting for actual evidence on the field.
