Pat Kirwans latest mock has us getting Vontae Davis in round 1 and Ramses Barden round 2..

i would be extremely happy with this.

30. Titans Vontae Davis CB Previous pick: Illinois Alphonso Smith
Davis is big and talented. He may not be mature enough yet for some coaches, but Jeff Fisher will have no problem getting this guy ready to play.
Second round: No. 62, Ramses Barden, WR, Cal Poly

I highly doubt it. He's rumored to have an attitude problem and I just don't see us taking a CB in round 1 that has an attitude problem.

I would be over the moon with that 1 - 2 progression.

I highly doubt Davis lasts....CBs are always a premium in the 1st round, while WRs always slip. These guys simply don't get it, despite tons of evidence in previous drafts. NFL GMs are all too happy to let the DeSean Jacksons and Limas Sweeds go, because getting those types of players in the 2nd and 3rd rounds are much easier than getting a potential pro-bowl cover CB, or a bonafide pass rusher, etc.

I have no doubt that a few of these projected 1st round WRs will end up slipping...

I would love for us to draft a big corner back. I dont know Davis very well but some of you think he has character issues which ofcourse doesn't set well with Titan fans since the last mishap. But if Jeff thinks that this kid can be an immediate impact on our defense and believes he will stay in line then i would love this pick.

I think only two recievers will be drafted in the first. A third may slip in there, but I have seen mock drafts with as many as six going in the first. These mock drafts are always way off especially once you get past the first five or so picks. Oakland will probably throw the whole draft off any how. I can't wait to see who Al Davis wastes his pick on.

We need football players first, humans with issues second. Anyone with an attitude problem can go to Oakland and rote.

JCBRAVE,
I agree with you 100%. We can see how hard the league came down on Pac, so character will be a really important issue in this year's draft. Do you think that it will be as important to the Titan FO as in the 1998 draft, when we passed on Randy Moss because of his marijuana use and took another WR, Kevin Dyson, instead?

One more for those that don't have ESPN Insider:

Overall Football Traits
Production 2 2006-'07: Davis starts all 24 games, recording a total of 128 tackles, including 6.5 tackles-for-loss. He intercepts five passes, breaks up 14 passes and returns four kickoffs for a total of 116 yards. 2008: Davis starts 11 of the 12 game he appears in, recording 78 total tackles including seven tackles-for-loss. He intercepts two passes, breaks up eight passes and forces three fumbles. Davis returns five kickoffs for a total of 99 yards.

Height-Weight-Speed 1 Possesses ideal height and is thickly built for a corner. Also possesses outstanding top-end speed for the position.

Durability 1 Didn't miss a game with an injury in three years as a starter.

Character 3 Illinois head coach Ron Zook did not start him versus Iowa in 2008 because reportedly felt he wasn't playing as well as he could. Lack of visible improvement from sophomore to junior year is a concern. Vontae's brother is 49er TE Vernon Davis.
Defensive Corner specific Traits

Recognition Skills/Toughness 1 Instinctive and shows great understanding of how receivers are trying to attack coverage. Reads quarterbacks' eyes when drops into zone coverage and does a sound job of mid-pointing high-low routes. Very aggressive tackler and not afraid to get his jersey dirty.

Closing Burst 1 Explosive, quick-twitch athlete. Elite closing burst, especially when receivers catch the ball in front of him. Shows a second gear when tracking the ball downfield and fast enough to recover when gets caught out of position.

Fluidity 2 Fluid hips and makes smooth transitions forced to change directions quickly. Flips hips quickly when turning and running with receivers and can play close to the line of scrimmage.

Ball Skills 2 Natural hands and catches most balls he gets his hands on. Can play the ball without going though the receiver. Does a nice job of timing jumps when going up for the jump ball.

Run Support 1 Quickly recognizes run and is extremely aggressive in run support. Strong open field tackler that does a solid job of going low and knocking ball carriers off their feet. Sheds receivers in a timely manner.

We have more pressing needs than another CB.

Let Nick Harper go down and see how fast that changes.

I think corner is by far the biggest need we have.

If we sign Holt I'd agree. Without him, I'd say it's almost a coin flip for me.

They were talking about this guy on the Path to the Draft on NFL Network. He is rated as the top or even 2nd best CB in the draft. He has all of the talent in the world, but doesn't always play like it. I think they even mentioned he was suspended for one game.

Not sure if we need someone who needs to be babysat or needs motivation to play football. He could be a gem, but is he worth the risk?

I'd like to pick up Nicks in the first and a corner in the second.
Davis looks like he has built a nice little resume.

Exactly! Look at how things went when Harper went down this past season. Harper is an average cover corner but excellent against the run.

I think Nick gets a bad rap but the Titans really do need to draft his replacement if possible. I really like Macho Harris but IDK if we should take him in the first and he'll probably be gone by the time we draft in the second.
