Do you really think Bama can handle VT. I am telling you the ACC is going to show its football powerhouse abilities this year. :D

I would like to be at that game. I am a little jealous of that even if you are pulling for the wrong team.

They could put a team of freshmen out and they still would beat Kentucky.

tennessee beating us??? ahahahahahahahah. listen when yall beat us 7 or 8 times in a row surely you knew there would be payback for that....im thinking AT LEAST 6 straight...but all that aside a win over the Hokies and im feeling unbeaten with a show down with Slingblade's Karl Miles and the LSU Bengal Tigers

That's because Vandy is Nashville's team!
(Ok. I just wish it was. It is just so hard being a Vandy fan when even in Nashville there are more Bama fans than us. I can't even count the number of UT fans that live in the area. Vandy is a great university that just has the hard luck of being the only remaining private school in the SEC. The bowl win was awesome, and hopefully it is a sign of things to come, but it would take a generation of winning before Vandy fans outnumber UT fans here. Pardon my rambling, but I have a serious love/hate relationship with UT, and it doesn't help that my entire family cheers for UT while only my wife and I cheer for Vandy. Thank you. :soapbox :lol)

And there lies the problem 309.
Vanderbilt is a private and expensive university. A lot of people in Tennessee see Vandy an an elitist school. The people who go there are seen as rich and privileged and it's difficult for people to relate to them. Therefore, it's hard to cheer for them.
IMO, Vandy would be better suited in the Ivy League.

Couldn't you say the same about Michigan for the most part.

I'm really not that familiar with Michigan, and I don't know that I've ever heard anyone compare them with Vandy.
The in-state COA for UM is half that of Vanderbilt, although the out-of-state is roughly the same. Sucks for those who come into Michigan to attend UM, but then they obviously have the $$$.
In summation: The locals can afford to go to UM; you can't say the same for Vandy, and I have no idea if UM has the elitist aura Vanderbilt does.

if someone is smart enough they can go to vandy. especially certain graduate fields.
my best friend since high school (who has since sadly died of breast cancer) had decided she wanted to go into nursing.
she was told by one place she was too smart and she needed to go to vandy.
well she at first didnt want to try but i and others talked her into doing it.
well lets just say they found a way for her to go through she had no money at the time.
i have known of others who went there through the years when they are their parents didnt have money.
to me the only elitist thing about vandy is closing the library and charging vast amounts of money to get in if you are non student.
but then again they offer up a lot of free or inexpensive entertainment , lectures ect to the whole community.

UM is pretty damn expensive like vandy(I believe UM is the most expensive school in the country) and each are pretty much the highest ranked schools in all of their majors. I have always found that the people in Detroit (UM is located in the 'burbs of Detroit) really like the school probably (50% UM, 40% MSU, 10% tOSU) bc of the sports teams, but many seem to think of the school as too elitist and stuck up for the very blue collar area. Just my take

BTW I will be watching this game to see how Terrence Cody does. He is who I want the titans to draft if possible. He resembles Haynesworth in every way possible. He is the same size at 6-6 and weighs in around 350-360 depending on who you ask. Cody is also an athletic freak from what I have heard and seen and could wreak havoc if coached up properly by Washburn. Hopefully he can trim down to about 320.

If someone is smart enough they can probably go anywhere.
However, that demographic is very small in comparison to your typical student body. The question is how can an average person go to a school like Vanderbilt without having money.
My point isn't to disparage Vandy so much as to shed some insight as to why there are so few Vandy fans in Tennessee. Most students can't get into Vandy, and if they could, wouldn't be able to afford it. That's why they go to MTSU, and UT and TTU and other state-owned/operated universities.
There are grants and scholarships, but they won't cover the entire amount it takes to get a UG at a school like Vandy. There have to be loans of some sort or other non-traditional avenues of income coming in, and in the end those loans will add up to a ton of debt at a school that has a COA of $50,000+ annually. That's if the student even qualifies to receive that type of financial aid, which many don't.
Some may not see Vanderbilt in an elitist, aristocratic light, but I know many that do, and that's probably one of the reasons you see so many fans of other universities (including Alabama) in the Nashville area and so few of Vandy.

It's funny. I didn't go to Vandy because I had money, and my wife was able to go there because she didn't.
I had a full ride to Tennessee Tech, and I knew I would have to pay a lot to go to Vandy, so I chose Tech. (Austin Peay came into the picture when I my scholarships expired / were lost).
My wife qualified for finiancial aid, became an RA in the dorms, and had some academic scholarships as well. At the end of 4 years, she just had $2000 she owed to the school, which was great.

There are plenty of Vanderbilt fans in Nashville. Vanderbilt graduates run Nashville -- they just have the intelligence and good taste to be discrete about it....
