College Football has officially begun!
South Carolina beat North Carolina State in a close one 7-3. NC State almost won it, but the receiver let a TD slip through his fingers.
Oregon is playing at Boise State right now and this looks like it could be a great one on the Smurf Turf.
I'm just excited real football is here! Leavin for Atlanta tomorrow to go see Alabama take on the Hokies, Roll Tide!!!

Oregon's tailback said before the game that they were "itching for payback" for their last loss to Boise State. So how does he go about getting his payback? He gets shut down by Boise State's defense all night long and then right after the game he takes a cheap shot and punches a Boise State player in the jaw and then went after the Boise State fans. The piece of crap should be kicked off their team and suspended.

yeah Michiga seems to only change their unis ever 15-20 years it seems...they have only hade maybe 5 or so looks ever. The basic blue/white, the double shoulder stripes, back to solid blue/white, single sleeve stripes, small blue line on away jerseys with the single stripe, and now those. I just wish they had blue pants for away games :sad I think they would look sharp with solid blue pants with a small maize line like on the jerseys

That shot is a little deceiving. In the other angle you can see he popped right back up a split second later. That punch just stunned him as he didn't expect it.
You are right that he probably wont talk trash anymore since Peterson ripped him a new one.
I do love what he said though. He said something along the lines of "You now owe us two ass whoopins". This was in response to Blount saying that Oregon owed us an ass whoopin.

Today was also a show to give Lane a recruit tool in his back pocket, He'll be able to walk into a super star high school kids home and show them that's he's not all talk, he'll give you a fair open shot at playing.
UT's freshmen looked very good today, yes it was Western Ky, but they showed power and skill with the ball in their hands. Just wait until Lane and the boys get some more kids in that fit into their system..then Rocky Top will be back near the top.

Michigan rested it's starters after going up 31-0 in the first half and coasted to a 31-7 victory. The new pressboxes really amp up the sound and make it loud!!! Tate forcier looks like he could be a stud of a QB and he is only an 18 year old running around. He reminds me and others of Troy smith in terms of who he plays Like and his mobility. Norte Dame is gonna be a good game next week I tell you what. Hopefully Brandon minor returns next week as he is the best RB in the conference and had to sit out today. I expect ND to win since Michigan is the youngest team in the conference but I expect a close one. I'm saying 36-31 ND

I completely forgot about this one. It should be a good game I think.
Notre Dame and Michigan State are the only teams that worry me really for Michigan this year (I already have OSU and PSU as losses)...if they beat MSU and ND, they are going bowling this year IMO...
W-Notre Dame-Hard one but I think Michigan can pull it out
W-Eastern Michigan-Easy win
W-Indiana-Big 10 opener against the worst B10 team
W@ Michigan State-They hung in with them last year and this year there is no javon ringer
L-@ Iowa-Too tough and strong for them
W-Delaware State-Should be an easy win
L-Penn State-Best Penn state team in years that is very strong and tough=Loss
L-@ Illinois-Too much firepower for Michigan
W-Purdue-Should be able to beat them by running the ball down their throats
W-@ Wisconsin-Wisc is falling apart it seems and is no better than Michigan last year
L-Ohio State-I predict a close game with Michigan losing its 6th in a row at the end

Not yet.
I hope JimOKC is alright. Tough way to start such a long awaited season, especially with Bradford's injury still up in the air. I still remember Colt McCoy's freshman year, when he was on track to break the Freshman QB record. He punched that TD in on 4-1 and busted up his shoulder/neck. Still tied the record, but should have broken it. Lost to KSU I believe and A&M, and the injury ruined what was a great season.
I can't imagine starting a season this way. We need a playoff, so teams that are down can still bounce back. :sad

I'm OK. Watched a lot of football Saturday. Pokes looked good. Horns looked good. OUs line looked terrible (4 out of 5 new starters including a center that was a tight-end/fullback previously). Tough to watch (as a fan) but was a good close game. I was impressed with a redshirt freshman that didn't have a lot of help from his teammates.
News today is that Bradford will be out 2-4 weeks but has a second opinion scheduled today. On Sunday, I talked to one of the assistant coaches. At that point, I was hearing that Sam wouldn't play again this season.

Can someone please tell me how there was 11 seconds before the kickoff, 10 seconds on the clock after the kickoff (ball was kicked out of the endzone and never touched), and then 9 seconds on the clock at the start of the next play? They took a second off when a second was supposed to be put on. Now tell me how the hell the officials can just run off the field and ignore Weiss while he was trying to talk to them about the clock.
The officials in this game were a disgrace and a game as good as that shouldn't have ever ended like that.

Charlie Weis (lets throw 2 fade passes while trying to run out the clock) and the Big Ten officials (I could go on and on about all the horrible calls or lack of calls) gave you guys that game.
I'm pissed about both of those things.
With that said, you guys do have a nice young QB in Forcier and I think he will be good as long as Rodriguez doesn't screw up his head (stick to one QB for the kids sake). I'm not so sure how good of a season you guys will have, but that win has got to feel good.

As a ND fan I probably noticed more bad calls going against us than went against Michigan, but it probably was closer then my biased opinion saw it. I just hate that the officials played a role in what was a real good game.
I'll put this loss more on Weis than I will anyone else though. I still can't understand why you would call a fade pass and a deep pass when you are trying to run out the clock. Those incomplete passes could have been a minute run off the clock.

Oh well. Here's to hoping this USC / OSU game can be just as competitive. I like both of these schools (grew up in SoCal and had some real good friends and family that attended OSU) so I don't really care who wins.

As for the game, it wasn't a high scoring battle but was still a lot of fun to watch (I love defensive battles). Like I said I don't like Pryor. I think he is a great athlete but probably doesn't have the poise or mental toughness to make him a great QB. I just think that Forcier might be getting a bit too much hype too right now. He's looked good in his two college games so far and I'll give him full credit for that. I'm just going to wait until he faces an actual defense before giving him too much credit.
As for the picture, it's pretty much how I picture him usually. Brady made him look much smarter than he is. Someone find me a coach that has more brains.

I think the thing is just how tate seems to handle himself...IK he hasnt faced a real D (tho I think ND's will rank fairly high by seasons end), but he just seems to have that "it" factor, similar to what VY had in college...not that I'm comparing the two by any means, but just the way they always seemed so calm and composed...especially in the biggest games of their lives (TX v. USC and today's game) when many QB's wouldn't be able to escape with the victory.
As for Weis, I would let this season play out. But IF they fire him, I think they should have a good long hard look at Norm Chow. The guy really is an offensive genius/mastermind...at the college level. Combine him with good talent which Notre Dame can bring in on name alone, and you might have one hell of a team on offense. Keep Tenuta as D. coordinator, as he will be great I think. Afterall, this is the guy who has coached up Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, and Matt Leinart.

D. Robinson is kind of just a change of pace QB who is instantly the fastest player in D1 the 2nd he steps on the field...The guy has CJ speed and you can look that up.
The next few games against Eastern Michigan and Indiana should determine his snaps per game. If he can show that he is a threat to throw, I think he will be used a touch more but idk...

Notre Dame returner touched the ball as it was bouncing on the kickoff which starts the clock. It continues running until the play ends, which in this case is when the ball goes out the back of the end zone.
I run the clock for a division 1-AA school and have to know rules like that.

Couldn't agree with you more. The early rankings are truly meaningless, especially the ones before the first week.
The rankings are definitely BS, but not meaningless. It is crucial to the shell game that the BCS is running. It doesn't matter which team from a BCS conference is ranked, just as long as they are ranked. When the in-conference teams play each other, they pass the ranking back and forth. It's just a scam, the pre-rankings are über important. If a BCS team beats another ranked BCS team, than the the line is "they are obviously a really good team, because they beat such and such ranked blah blah blah". If a non-BCS team beats a ranked BCS team, the line is "well such and such had a trap game, and they better pull it together, because they still have some more tough BCS conference games to play. Oh and that other team played okay, they got lucky, their coach seems to have their program going in the right direction, it was a good showing with inferior talent, folks better watch out because in a few years that team may actually go some where".

Did I mention how much I hate Weis. The guy is just going psycho about losing to Michigan. Saying how a Michigan LB punched one of his o-lineman. The video is on YouTube. Anyway the ND player not only hits him after the play was over but drives him into the ground and pretty much lays on him. And the ND players were doing it all game to Michigan players and finally the mich player hit him back. When the mich player gets up he slaps the guys helmet. Maybe you can say it was a light punch. But either way I will say it was kind of cheap but Weis is acting like this changed the outcome of the entire game and is sending the tape of the play in and demanding the LB be suspended. Also, he continues to complain about the final ND drive with the kickoff and how time came off the clock. Apparently he doesn't know that if a player touches the ball the clock runs until the ball goes out of bounds. I really hate Weis. But I hope they keep him, just so he can lose again and again to Mich and make an even bigger ass of himself.

I am really disappointed with Vandy's offense tonight. That had a first and goal on the 5 after a fumble, and they had to kick a field goal. It is one thing to struggle offensively on the road at LSU. But to play this poorly at home against Miss St. is inexcusable.

This was about the worst offensive performance I have seen a Vandy team have, and I have seen a lot of bad offensive performances. I really don't understand it.
I really don't know if Vandy will win an SEC game this year. You don't get much easier than Mississippi State at home. If they couldn't win this game, what game can they win?
This is why I don't buy Vandy season tickets. When they are favored at home, they almost always disappoint.

Right about now, I'd say they have a good shot at Tennessee.
They have a solid defense, and if Crompton is behind center, they have that going for them.
He should throw 2-3 interceptions.

Nebraska lost to Virginia Tech yesterday and here's what I posted on the Wall of my Facebook page this morning:
Nebraska's one point loss to Virginia Tech yesterday will be difficult to forget for a long, long time. I was shocked, stunned and had a hard time sleeping. My world went from technicolor to black and white, from the Emerald City to Kansas. It may not be as bad as the one point loss to Miami in the 1984 Orange Bowl for the Nat'l Championship , but the feeling's the same.

Well, they just lost to South Carolina again. Ole Miss is a good SEC team, but they aren't in LSU/Alabama territory in the West. Heck, Auburn might be better than them this season.

Indiana WR and Michigan CB both had possession of the ball when they hit the ground. It looked as if the WR had more of the ball than the CB, but the CB flipped over the top of the WR on the ground and wrestled the ball away well after they had both been down. I'll post a link below.
The rules say in that instance, possession remains with the offense, but the refs viewed it differently.
I hate to see a well fought game come down to that, but Indiana should have score more TD's when they were in the red-zone.
Michigan has allowed both Notre Dame and Indiana to hang 30+ on them; they better shore up that D if they expect to compete in the NC hunt.

yea I'll watch it when I get home but yea I know about that rule. Mustve been a weird play. But yea the D was supposed to be the weakest part. And it's not the run d as they've been decent except for a few looooooong runs this year. But yea it's the secondary. Donovan Warren(the guy who intercepted Indiana) is solid as they get, but cissoko has played with a nagging shoulder injury and he is getting picked on badly bc of it. It's like the injury caused him to lose his crazy speed and timing. And RR won't put in the much heathier jt turner who is a beast of a frosh.

It's up to the refs for interpretation, but it sucks that they end up having that much of an impact on what was a thrilling game.
The call could have gone either way I guess, but from what I saw, I believe Indiana should have retained the ball.
Michigan gave up 197 yards on the ground and 3 TD's; one was a long 85 yard TD.
I will point to one play in this game that was one of the deciding factors. Near the end, with Indiana holding the lead, they forced Michigan to punt. The returner ran up to field the ball and waved for a fair catch, he then proceeded to let it hit the ground and roll about 30-40 yards down the field. The result was Indiana going three and out and giving the ball back to Michigan with great field position; then the Wolverines drove down the field and scored the winning TD.
I was screaming at that guy the whole time. I have no favorites in this game mind you, but that play was critical. Sometimes players can do some pretty stupid things.
Anyway, Indiana played them very well in the Big House. I'm looking forward to the Penn State and OSU games.
I think RR has Michigan going in the right direction.

Looking at those pictures the first two show that both guys had the ball in their hands. The third picture doesn't show the ball but does show that the WR's knees are down. The fourth picture shows the Michigan player with the ball after the receiver is already down. Aren't NCAA rules the same as the NFL in that if both players have control of the ball when one goes down the possession stays with the offense?

Yes, it's still very unclear who really had possession to begin with. I really think the correct call should of been a tie and that would go to the receiver. However they ruled it a pick and there's really no good proof to turn it either way so keeping the call the way it is is the only way you can really go. It all just depends on that first judgment.

The thing that was reassuring was that the team gets its starting guard and center back in the next few weeks...along with Minor, who is on of the best RB's in the nation but has been injured all season. Carlos Brown is fast, but Minor is both crazy strong and fast. Today the team just looked uninspired barring the last 5 minutes of regulation. I still think they can deff win 2 more big 10 games which I think will come at either Iowa, Purdue, Illinois, or Wiscy. Plus they have a game against Delaware state in 2 weeks...they could still be 8-4 and get into a nice bowl game, which is all I want. I really think they should only lose to OSU, PSU...the rest are all toss ups.

Last year made a lot of the suffering over the years worthwhile.
But it was still incredibly disappointing to see so many penalties, missed field goals, incomplete passes, turnovers, and giving up too many long 3rd down conversions.
Vandy could run on Ole Miss. Vandy intercepted Snead 3 times. They even had a really good punt and return game. But without a passing game and without being able to make the big stop, it just isn't enough to compete in the SEC.
I am still really curious what will happen when Vandy and UT meet at the end of the season. I doubt there will be 200 combined passing yards. :ohmy

Vandy's 13-16 OT loss to Army today was so disheartening. First, I really wish college and the pros would adopt the new UFL rule. In the UFL, if an offensive player fumbles the ball through the end zone, the ball is played just like any other fumble out of bounds, giving the ball back to the offensive team. Of course in college and the pros, they give the ball to the defense, even though they really don't deserve it. Vandy lost in OT because the running back fumbled on the two yard line, and the ball rolled in an out of the end zone.
Second, Vandy has to figure out how to score in the red zone. Down 10-13 with about a minute and a half to go, Vandy had the ball first and goal on the 6. After an offensive pass interference penalty and a false start, Vandy was lucky to send it to OT on a 41-yard field goal that bounced off the upright. Vandy also blew a first and goal in the 3rd quarter, settling for a field goal.
Vandy likely won't win another game. This was the best chance at win #3, and I don't see anyone else on their schedule they can compete with. I hate to see Vandy fall so far from their wonderful season of last year.
