Gotcha, I just wasn't sure since they seldom play each other.

I was hoping for a blackhawks-red wings classic...maybe at soldier field...or dare I say, Michigan Stadium...oh well, I still have the Michigan/MSU game at Michigan Stadium...thats gonna be a great hockey game there!

That game was nuts last night, not sure Leighton deserved the hook last night. Only 2 of the goals allowed were on him. Other than that he was screened by his defense or they weren't clearing the rebounds (Versteeg goal). A casual fan would have enjoyed that game last night IMO.

The end of this game just shows why hockey fans love the sport (anything can happen at any time) and why non-hockey fans have such a hard time getting into the sport (it's hard to celebrate things when nobody sees what happens). Real good finish to the game though.

Very happy for Hawks fans (minus the celebrations from the Vaughn/Cusack/James crew)....very worthy champ and a futility streak that needed to end. Also happy that the Leafs are now on top of that mountain at 42 years and counting. WTG!

Quote from Adam Burish on Pronger in the locker room...
"I think Chris Pronger is the biggest idiot in the league…I can't stand the guy one bit..hope I never have to see him again..if I see him out there I might punch him."
(on Chicago Tribune calling Pronger - Crissy Pronger) "No but that's perfect…he was terrible..."

Until I see players getting moved due to their cap issues, its hard for me to not see the Hawks repeating. That team is frigging stacked. If the Flyers can get a real goalie, then they stick out for me too.

NHL rejects Ilya Kovalchuk's 17 year, $102 million deal http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nhl/news/story?id=5397588

Now I knew nothing about the NHL salary cap before this article, but it was educating to see that to calculate a hit, you just add up the total contract and divide by the number of years in it. As an NFL fan, I find that a very weird way to do it. To me, a cap hit should be based on what a player makes that year, with the hit usually going up each year as the salary increases (just like the NFL).

I also didn't know there were caps for how much a single player can earn in a year. Right now, it is around $11.5 million, which explains why this player's salary is right at that level for 5 years.

Salaries are guarenteed, though apparently teams can buy them out at 1/3 or 2/3 the remaining contract, depending on the age of the player.

Yeah, it's easier to do the numbers this way. IMO. The buyout still counts against the cap though.
