FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP)—Junior Seau(notes) is back with the New England Patriots, coming out of retirement for a third time to sign a contract Tuesday for a 20th season as an NFL linebacker.

The signing of the 12-time Pro Bowl player was announced by Versus, the television network on which Seau has a show. The Patriots have not announced the signing, which had been expected, although the team said he had a physical and a workout last week.

“I hope at some point he will be” with the Patriots, club owner Robert Kraft said at the NFL owners meeting in Boston. “He’s a unique individual. I’d love to have him part of our team for as long as he wants to.”

Seau, 40, should have a better chance of standing up to running backs than he did to a rodeo bull, which knocked him down on one of the episodes of “Sports Jobs with Junior Seau.”

Not sure why they are re-signing a such an old player. The only thing that pops in my mind it's because Seau is familiar with the scheme over there.

I think it's more about getting some leadership back in the locker room with Harrison and Bruschi retired and Vrabel playing in KC. He'll be a two-down player in the base set. I'm pretty sure no one's expecting him to come in and be Brian Urlacher.

I like it... I'm always happy when someone on the field is actually older than me. :thumbsup

(And there aren't too many anymore.)

I know what you mean GP. I miss the days when everyone was older than me, but it's getting rarer. Even the "old" guys like Favre are younger than me. They will be sad days indeed for me personally when John Carney and Jeff Feagles retire. :lol
