View Full Version : Who will be the first coach fired?

With Thanksgiving fast approaching and the number of coaches out there with gravitas, the hatchets will be falling soon to get a shot at one of them.
Where will the axe fall first?

I say Cable and Zorn. So I voted Cable, we know that Davis has a short leash for every HC he has.
Morris might have saved his job after how his team looked against Green Bay. But that tendency might continue or else. IMO.

I'm not sure Zorn will make it through the season but I do think Fox, Cable and Jauron will likely be fired after the season is over. That's why I went with Zorn. :)
Raheem Morris I think is safe. Bucs knew this would be a rebuilding year and they just put their first round pick in at QB last week and he had a solid outing.

Jauron after CJ runs for 350 and 5 TDs and VY throws for another 4.
nah seriously i think Zorn is out before anyone..
noway the niners fire Singletary or the Jets get rid of Ryan.. they will be with their teams for years to come IMO.
How about Tom Coughlin ? 4 losses in a row? or does the Super Bowl win buy him sometime?

yahoo's jason cole reports that raiders owner al davis is hoping to fire head coach tom cable at season's end.
Citing a "source familiar" with ex-assistant randy hanson's case against cable stemming from a training camp fight, cole says the raiders are cooperating with the nfl so that cable can be fired for cause. Davis would then be off the hook for cable's remaining salary. The league is exploring whether to force cable into psychological evaluation and counseling for his history of (alleged) physical abuse against hanson and women.

I said Zorn. I would normally say any Raiderrrs coach, but Cable is to good of a fit for Oakland and Al Davis is probably scared of getting assaulted.

some speculation is that the raiders are going to help in the investigation of cable so davis can fire him with cuase and not pay out the rest of the contract.

Mangini in hot water again
8:06AM ET
Earlier in the week there was a report from Pro Football Weekly where an unnamed league exec and some team insiders noted that Eric Mangini needs to go soon -- or else he might have a mutiny on his hands.
Then we got word from a former co-worker, who reacted to his lack of good relationships amongst other coaches and execs by telling Yahoo! Sports, "He's out all alone on Mangini Island."
Well, now he's in some hot water out there on Mangini Island, because for the second time this season, one of the Cleveland Browns players has sustained a season-ending injury during "opportunity drills", supposedly voluntary, padless practices. The first time it was RB James Davis, and this time it's DE Keith Grennan, a second-year p-squadder. Grennan is going to be out at least eight months with a ruptured patellar tendon.
So if his poor record, lack of solid relationships with co-workers and resemblance to Mayor Quimby weren't enough, his penchant for working his players into the ground might be reason to give future employers second thoughts.

I would put my money on Cable or Mangini. I am not an uber fan of Brett Favre or anything but even he couldn't string together any nice words about Mangini. It would be one thing if Mangini weren't such a total dick...but when you are...and your team has a history of losing there truly is no reason not to move on and find someone else. He just gives off bad feng shui.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris must have some awfully sore arms today, because during his Monday presser, he managed to throw his entire defense under the bus.
"We're just not made right now to knock people back," Morris said, per the Tampa Tribune. "That's not how we're cut. We don't have big, intimidating linebackers or big, intimidating linemen." He continued, "We'll find those guys and we'll go out there and get them. Right now, we got to go out there and play with the guys we have."
Yikes. But wait, aren't these small, non-intimidating linebackers and linemen the ones that you and GM Mark Dominik hand-picked before the season?
That flaw in logic aside, it's pretty clear that if he already hasn't, Morris is on the way to losing his players. This is a sign that the season might be spiraling quickly downward with seven games to go, and doesn't portend well for his future in Tampa.

For the first time since 1986, the Bills made an in-season coaching change when Dick Jauron was fired Tuesday. Owner Ralph Wilson released a statement shortly after the news broke:
"I am announcing today that I am relieving Dick Jauron from his duties as our head coach, effective immediately," said Wilson. "I have tremendous respect for Dick and thank him for all of his efforts during these past four years. While this was a very difficult decision, I felt that it is one that needed to be made at this time for the best interest of our team. We will now focus on moving forward and preparing for our game this week in Jacksonville."
The team has not announced who the interim coach will be yet, but defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is believed to be a leading candidate.
The firing comes a day after defensive end Aaron Schobel questioned the team's direction and two days after a late game meltdown against the Titans.

John Fox has been amongst the NFL coaches on the hot list all season, and Thursday night's loss to the Miami Dolphins did nothing to help him. Playing against a team that lost their star running back for the season, and which lost several other starters during the game, they suffered another defeat, which has all but eliminated them from the playoffs.
This is especially true when one considers their remaining schedule (seen at right). As NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas wonders, "Look at that list again and tell me you honestly think the Panthers can win five or six of those games." In other words, it could be curtains for Fox following this season.
As for his replacement, the No. 1 name we keep hearing linked to the Panthers is North Carolina resident Bill Cowher.

That would be a good situation for the jaw. The Panthers do have some talent on both sides of the ball. They should be better than they are. It can't all be Delhommes' fault.
