kinda old news but they made it official today. Damn, another god awful halftime show...lets rehash the last 6 years:
2005-Paul McCartney
2006-Rolling Stones
2007-Prince
2008-Top Petty
2009-Bruce Springsteen
2010-The Who (only 2 of the members are even alive)
The sad thing is all of these groups(minus Prince) coulda played halftime at Super Bowl 1. Whats next, the beach boys? the Monkeys?
Damn, get bands whose members can still eat solid foods. This is just irritating now. I could understand going conservative for a year or two after the incident in 2004, but 6 years later and we are still rocking like its 1969. Bring in newer groups that are at least from the early 1990's. Green Day, Foot Fighters, Kings of Leon, Smashing Pumpkins, Wolfmother, Pearl Jam...bands that could rock the hell out of the venue and who are pretty big names currently, not from 1969.

Maybe in 2011 we'll get Alabama to play us some Mountain Music, and in 2012 we can welcome "fake Steve Perry" and Journey with Open Arms.

The people they are choosing are atrocious. Have been ever since the Janet incident.....I don't even know who the hell these people (The Who) are, and I guarantee you my tube will be on mute....There are so many good acts available: Lil' Wayne (it can be clean), Akon, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Jay Sean, T-Pain, Gaga would be entertaining, 50 Cent, Kanye West, just to name a few....Bring hip-hop back into this thing. Why not have a fusion of it, rock, pop, and country. Everyone can enjoy.

My personal lineup would be a fusion, as stated by rohit
1st: FiveFingerDeathPunch (Loving their new stuff and love the old)
2nd: 36 Mafia (longtime fav of mine)
3rd: Big N Rich (know every word of the cd "a horse of a different color")
4th: Katy Perry (cuz damn, she's hot)
5th: Close out the show with Korn, preforming, "Blind"
random huh

chill with katy perry being hot....
beyonce would be my choice, she wouldnt have any "malfunctions" and everyone loves her
maybe a surprise appearance of jay-z during one of her songs
i could also live with carrie underwood, faith hill (god i love that short dress thing she is wearing in this year's sunday night song), alicia keys, john mayer, mariah carey, ...
im surprised bon jovi isnt in the mix?
Wow.... I see a generation gap or two.
I never thought I would see the day when the Who and conservative were used in the same sentence.
I think you all are still a little wet behind the ears.

You guys can keep dreaming if you think rap will be in the SB anytime soon. The reason guys like "Top Petty" (that spelling made me facepalm) are doing the SB halftime show is because the generation that loved them (and many still do) are the ones that spend the most money on pro football right now.
If you put these guys on the air then you might lose the younger generations during the SB halftime show but the simple matter of the fact is that most of them aren't spending all that much money on the NFL anyways. That's not any sort of racial or stereotype comment either. The same goes for bands like the Foo Fighters. The younger generation (which I am still proudly part of) just doesn't make nearly as much money as older generations do.
Out of recent performances the only person or group I actually liked in my lifetime is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, but to be honest they could put whoever they want out there at halftime and I'm not watching. Halftime is when you go get your food off the grill and get some more drinks. At least it is for those of us on the west coast who see the game at a decent hour.

Because of the "Wardrobe Malfunction", the NFL will not allow anyone remotely controversial to be part of the halftime show at the Super Bowl. Rap and hip-hop create controversy, whether it is legitimate or not.
When the FCC punished CBS for in all likelihood not knowing what was going to happen, you can be sure that all network executives took immediate notice. They were not going to allow themselves or their employers to be caught up in that kind of negative attention.
As for me, I think that the uproar over Nipplegate is ridiculous. I am what most people would consider liberal-minded. Many other countries in the world have nudity in TV commercials, and they haven't gone to hell in a hand basket. But that conversation is a whole other thread by itself. We could go round and round with that one. :D

I think some people don't realize the phrase "sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll" came from our generation for a reason, and The Who were a part of it. ROAD TRIP!!!! :D

The NFL has just announced that the halftime entertainment for the 2039 Superbowl will be the geezer bands "Korn" (sorry, I don't know how to make a backwards r) and "Limp Bizkit."

Well, the 2011 Super Bowl will be played in early 2012 and the world is not scheduled to end until that following December.
So as a result, Roger Goodell has announced today that Billy Graham will hold a revival crusade at halftime of the February 2012 Super Bowl, and the teams will be held in the locker room until the altar call is complete.
We evangelicals are going to rule the world.

I hope my credit is wiped when the world ends. Dramatic bailout if ever there was one.
On the topic of halftime shows, I really don't care. It's not like I watch the super bowl for the halftime show (or the commercials for that matter).

I'm all about that "borrower is slave to the lender stuff in the Bible," but I think I'm going to buy a nasty expensive sports car on Dec. 20, 2012 and run the freaking wheels off it for 24 hours just because I can.

I still hold a massive grudge against the Titans for foiling a perfect setup last year when Springsteen was the halftime music. It was all set up perfectly for me. Those schmucks. :slap

I've heard they're trying to get Elvis signed up to do a show. I'm sure they won't let the fact that he's just a little bit dead hinder them in their endeavors.
After all, it hasn't stopped them with these other acts, why should it now?:thumbsup:toast

I've seen lots of halftime shows that featured the marching bands of Nebraska or Tennessee State U, but while the NFL allowed a band at halftime in SB I, not today- I guess.:sad

Paul McCartney - loved it
Rolling Stones - take it or leave it
Prince - loved it
Tom Petty - loved it
Springsteen - would rather listen to fingernails down a chalkboard
The Who - I'm sure I'll love it too
Give me a choice between listening to a legend (McCartney) or a flash in the pan (Lil Wayne) and I'll take the legend every time.

Wayne only blew up huge time recently, but he has been "famous" since 1998. His 1998 album went platinum. So "flash in the pan" isn't very accurate IMO.

This is by far the best Super Bowl halftime show ever. Nothing will ever match the feeling that I received from it at the time and I still get the same feeling today.

The Who are (were) one of the great bands and the rock opera/album Tommy is classic. Give it a listen. Loud. :thumbsup
As far as them playing for the SB, who cares-you can't go back.:lolhit

I think they should scrap the music for the halftime show next year and instead have the victoria's secret fashion show instead on the field.

Speaking of Lil Wayne, I heard he's been recruited for some serious work:
