The Bowling Green Hot Rods began their inaugural season Thursday with an impressive 8-3 victory over the Hickory Crawdads. A fourth inning solo homerun by shortstop Tim Beckham was the first hit in Hot Rods history. The 19 year old Beckham was the 2008 overall #1 draft pick and is considered a top 25 prospect. He is joined on the team by older brother, second baseman Jeremy.

Finishing touches are being made on a brand new ballpark in downtown Bowling Green, KY in anticipation of the April 17th home opener for the single A affiliate of the defending American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays.

Okay, so I'm not a sportswriter, but I'm excited to have baseball in BG. I have followed minor league ball, especially the Sounds, for years. It's been fun to see some of the players that have come through Nashville make it to the bigs. Now I'll get to see some of them from almost the very beginning.

Try to control your excitement. The Red Sox class A affilate Greenville Drive will be in town soon.

So, this is "Single A" baseball?

That is true titanup, and my kids and I attend a few of their games every season. But, in my opinion, there is an entirely different atmosphere at a professional baseball game, at any level.

Yes, Z, it is 'A' ball.

I swear when I first saw the title I thought it said Milf comes to Bowling Green. :lolhit

I love watching minor league baseball. It's cheap, the drinks and food are reasonably priced, it's fun, and it's a bunch of players giving it their all! The atmosphere is great too!

I went to BG last season when Austin Peay played at WKU, very nice facility. Reminds me of Vandy's ball park.....most foul balls end up in the football stadium :lol
