It turns out they made it illegal for players who are on the ground to simply roll into the passer’s knees or to deliver a hit to the knees with their helmet or shoulders.
“The rule is not designed to prohibit players from making a play once they go to the ground. We don’t expect our players to quit,” Fisher explained. “All the rule does is give additional protection to quarterback. All the rule states is it prohibits forcibly striking the quarterback in the knee area. The committee’s primary responsibility is to promote player safety.”

I'm cool with this and kind of wonder why the hell it took so long?

It only took a star QB getting wrecked for a year.
Must be a slow day for the city paper. This rule was announced 3 weeks ago.

I've seen a lot of confusion over this rule. People haven't read through it carefully enough. Fisher gives a good explanation... players who are on the ground are not "out of the play." There's a lot of misconception over that.

No but tossing in the interview now is like interviewing him about the playoff loss.

I thought there was already a Brady rule.
Something about a fumble being something other than a fumble.

I was gonna say two hand touch on them.... but then they would get flagged for "pushing too hard".

I'm still waiting on the NFL to institute the VY rule. This rule would make it illegal for fans to boo the QB. We learned with VY that booing can cause injury to a QB.

On Mike & Mike the other morning, Golic absolutely came unglued when he heard about this rule change.
I think his best line was something along the lines of, a guy can lunge at a QB, miss, and instead of crawling forward and tackling him around the knees has to stand up and then resume his tackle. All this is happening while the QB is throwing a bomb for a TD.
I understand the idea behind the rule, but it's a stupid damn rule to have. People get hurt and the league needs to get over it. They'll never change it though since they're too busy on their knees right now giving players like Brady and the like their happy ending.
