DAVIE - Miami Dolphins inside linebacker Reggie Torbor was held out of Wednesday's practice because of an undisclosed injury he suffered in last Sunday's 14-10 win over Jacksonville.

Torbor, who is part of a three-player rotation with fellow inside linebackers Channing Crowder and Akin Ayodele, has contributed 19 tackles, one sack, one interceptions and broke up four passes this season.

Last week he contributed three tackles (two for losses), two quarterback hurries, and a sack in his role as a pass rushing specialist against the Jaguars.

The inside linebackers will play a pivotal role in Sunday's game against Tennessee (6-7) because Chris Johnson, the Titans starting tailback, has rushed for 1,626 yards, and is averaging 6.0 yards a carry.

Johnson, who has scored 13 touchdowns this season, also leads the Titans with 42 receptions for 391 yards…

Nickel cornerback Nate Jones, who had been slowed by a hamstring injury he suffered on Dec. 6, practiced without limitations.

The Titans have signed defensive end Kareem Brown to the practice squad. The former Miami (Fla.) player takes the place of Eric Bakhtiari, who was promoted to the 53-man roster on Saturday.

Brown was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2007 draft. Later, the Jets tried to convert him to tight end but ended up releasing him.

Titans linebacker David Thornton missed practice again on Thursday, and hasn’t practiced since suffering a shoulder injury on Sunday against the Rams.

Rookie Gerald McRath is expected to start in his place on Sunday against the Dolphins.

Coach Jeff Fisher said doctors are still evaluating the injury.

There’s a chance the Titans might have to shut Thornton down the rest of the season, but Fisher said no decision had been made.

“We are going to talk to him and see,’’ Fisher said of Thornton. “Our hope is that David will be able to come back, but the shoulder has been quite sore.’’

It’s been a frustrating season for Thornton, who has missed two games and left at least one more while dealing with injuries to his hip and shoulder.

On the year he has 60 tackles in 11 starts.

“David is one of those guys that is going to be up front and honest and if he feels good and is able to do the things then he plays (some more this season) and if not,’’ Fisher said. “He has been a big part of our recent defensive success.’’

Young Splits Practice Reps On Thursday

By Benjamin Seamon December 17, 2009

Titans quarterback Vince Young returned to practice Thursday and split repetitions with backup quarterback Kerry Collins.

Young has been recovering from a strained hamstring he suffered in Sunday's 47-7 win over the St. Louis Rams. Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said it was good to get Young back on the practice field as the team continues to prepare for the Miami Dolphins game on Sunday.

"He [Young] participated in limited practice today," Fisher said. "Which was encouraging, it was better than yesterday [Wednesday]."

Young wore a protective sleeve over his right leg. He participated in the offense's early drills as well as the seven-on-seven portion of practice. During the offensive team period Young split repetitions with Collins.

"We split reps today," Fisher said. "And we will probably do that again tomorrow."

The fourth year quarterback out of Texas took over as the Titans starter this season after the team got out to an 0-6 start with Collins as quarterback. Since making the switch, Tennessee has rattled off five out of six wins. In 36 career regular season starts, Young has amassed a 24-12 record. So far this year, he has thrown for 1,383 yards along with seven touchdowns and only three interceptions.

Fisher said the team has continued to evaluate Young's situation on a day-to-day basis.

"He's still not full speed but he was able to practice today," Fisher said. "We will probably take it one day at a time and see how he does tomorrow. But it is encouraging that we got him back out on the field today. I thought he moved around pretty well."

More injuries

Center Kevin Mawae was back from a day off with a sore back and participated fully in Thursday’s practice. Also, linebacker Keith Bulluck, a bit under the weather on Wednesday, was a full participant on Thursday, as was receiver Nate Washington, who was limited Wednesday by an ankle problem.

Defensive tackle Tony Brown was out again with a knee injury, but indicated that his intent is to be back on the practice field on Friday.

Defensive end Eric Bakhtiari and tight end Craig Stevens both ran on the side as they suffered concussions in Sunday’s game.
