I knew there was a good chance we wouldn't resign him, but I don't think I really let myself believe he wouldn't be a Titans next year. I think this may seal his fate with our team, but I honestly do hope it doesn't end his career.

The only good thing is that Gerald McRath has played very in filling in for Thorton, the only problem is that we lost both Thorton and Bulluck, this is very very bad news. I wonder if we'll sign someone, I would think we'd almost have to.

I am glad I was able to be there to see KB in possibly his last game as a Titan but I really hope it's not, he's one of the all time great Titans and one of my favorite players. I hope he has a speedy full recovery and best of wishes to him.

Bulluck done with the Titans?

After surviving the Y2K scare, linebacker Keith Bulluck was drafted out of Syracuse by the Tennessee Titans. In his 10 seasons with the team, he's been a cornerstone of the Titans' defense, but the Bulluck era in Tennessee might be coming to an end with his contract up following 2009.

If that's the case, he's played his last game for the team, since Titans coach Jeff Fisher announced during Monday afternoon's press conference that Bulluck was placed on season-ending IR.

If the Titans do wish to keep Bulluck around for 2010, one option is the franchise tag: if there is an uncapped season in 2010, each team will get an extra one. But speaking to ESPN.com's AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky a couple weeks ago, Bulluck seemed incensed at the idea: "I would hope they wouldn't. I would rather know that I have more than just one year locked in. I think that would be pretty selfish on their part if that's what they chose to do."

On the other hand, maybe it's time to look to bring in some fresh meat by way of the draft. This D isn't getting any younger:

Loyalty to their players has not been this organizations strong point, in my opinion.

to a degree that has been true of most teams in the nfl especially with the coming of the cap.
but it was true in the past. it is suprising how many well known players were with another team before they left football.

while i am very sad was this means to keith and his career in football plus what this will do to to the team;i feel things tempered by the fact that keith had a long and pretty injury free career over all.

if he dosnt come back.. and if anyone could i could see keith doing it.

i sorta feel this way because i can easily see keith having a great good life away from football.
more so then some other players.

and knowledge things could be much worse ..

Keith Bulluck is one of my favorate Oiler/Titans of all time. Moon, Givins, Jeffries, Mathews, Bishop, Robertson, McNair, George & Bulluck top my list. Almost all of these guys finished their careers with another organization so losing Bulluck wouldn't be anything new but I really hope he finishes his career in two tone blue. If not Keith will always be thought of as a TITAN and I wish him the best of luck except when his team plays us.

No obvious contact at the time he fell, it looked like the knee buckled. Sadly, that kind of scenario usually means a torn ligament. Damn. Keith is like our definsive glue, he's more important as a leader than the guys actually named as Captains this year. IMHO. Business thinking probably means a re-signing that was already a long shot now has none at all. Thanks, Keith! You've been a great Titan!. I hope it continues here, but, if not, then all the best to you in whatever lies ahead.

I still see a chance of resigning Bulluck if we let go of Thorton. It would be difficult to replace both linebackers. McGrath should be good, but that's just one replacement.

I am really sad to hear Bulluck is done for the season. He has definitely been one of my favorite players on this team, and probably my favorite defensive player for this franchise.

Middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch, the team's second-leading tackler, will handle defensive play-calling duties the rest of the season. Rookie Gerald McRath will continue to start in place of Thornton.

"You can't replace guys like that," McRath said. "You can't. They've done too much. The only thing you can do is to prepare yourself to the high standards they've set for backers this year … and the standard is very high."

Colin Allred filled in when Bulluck went out, and Stanford Keglar played in extra-linebacker packages.

Bulluck has been nothing less than a warrior and leader on this team for a long time. Keith 'gets it' and truly is one of the good guys in this league. He lives for the type of games that we will be playing on Friday. I feel really horrible for him, you can count on one hand how many games he has missed in his career. I know it isn't many. He will be greatly missed.

Thornton Says Tulloch Must Lead LB's

By Jonathan Hutton December 21, 2009

When David Thornton found out the test results that effectively ended his 2009 season, it was the veteran Titans linebacker who called middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch to send words of encouragement, not the other way around.

Thornton (shoulder) and fellow veteran Keith Bulluck (ACL) were placed on the Injured Reserve list Monday, leaving the Titans depleted both in experience and veteran leadership.

From his annual ''DT's Shopping Spree'' at Dick's Sporting Goods on Monday night, Thornton said Tulloch would need to be the player to step up and lead the Titans linebacking corps. as the team fought for a postseason berth over the final two weeks of the season.

''I told him leadership is about influence,'' Thornton told Titans Radio Monday night. ''And I said hopefully I've influenced you in the right way to be able to carry the torch while Keith and I are not there.''

Younger players have now been asked to fill the void of the injured Thornton and Bulluck starting this Friday as the Titans host San Diego on Christmas night. Bulluck had started 127 consecutive games and Thornton had been a dependable starter on game day, even when hurt. Rookie Gerald McRath started for Thornton last Sunday against Miami, while Colin Allred and Stanford Keglar filled in when Bulluck went down with a left knee injury in the third quarter.

''It takes veteran leadership on a team such as this to be able to handle adversity. We have solid leadership in place and you're starting to see some fruits of that labor now. I'm really excited for our younger players to be able to go out and play. Whether it's Colin Allred, you've seen what Gerald McRath can do. He can clearly be productive for the team.''

''It's disappointing, absolutely,'' Thornton said. ''When you talk about your passion...and to know that you won't be playing any more this season, it's disappointing...''

Thornton is scheduled to undergo surgery later this week, while Bulluck will have surgery before the regular season ends on January 3 in Seattle. Both players will be forced to go through extensive rehab throughout the offseason in order to return next season at full strength.

''My heart goes out to Keith as well. I had a chance to see him today and he's definitely in my prayers. Keith has meant a lot to me since I arrived in Tennessee and he was one of the reasons why I wanted to come here, just the things he's done on and off the field.''

''His durability is something that has been a big trademark of his and it's something that he'll be able to bounce back from.''

Even though he'll have surgery in two or three days, Thornton still held his annual shopping spree for kids in need Monday night and said ''I couldn't play on the field, so I'm playing off the field tonight''.

Approximately 15 children were given $200 gift cards to Dick's Sporting Goods for winning an essay contest on changing the community.

As a fan of his, I would be very dissapointed if he is a Titan with the same role as he has had this year...I seriously think if we used him properly early on when Kerry was QB, we would have won more than 0...He is a smart guy, there's no way he shows up to camp if we try to keep him

He'd be incredibly foolish to sit this next year out. It's looking more and more likely that there will be a lockout in 2011. Who knows maybe he will get traded or someone will outbid our tender. I feel for LenDale and Vickerson and Tony Brown are in similar situations. Bo too. Blame the NFLPA and the league for not getting a new deal on the CBA done.

IF KB is done in the NFL - its not a bad way to go out. Hes had a great career, but I think its fair to say he has been on the downward slope for a while now. Luckily he has played for so long as such a high level, even a downward slope is pretty damn good!

Last years unbelievable season and helping to bring this years team back to playoff relevancy after the 0-6 start are great career cappers.

I would rather see KB go out on top then fizzle like so many aging linebackers. I'm not saying hes got nothing left in the tank, but if this is going to be the end for sure, I'm happy for him. Its been a GREAT 10 years.

I just don't see KB being what we're use to.

He's almost 33 and coming off a bad knee injury. That's not a great combination for a LB.

I think we need to move on.

I think we need to move on.
I think we will even if we re-sign him.
