View Full Version : Can we beat the Chargers?

The Chargers just won't lose in December, and the Titans/TN Oilers are 0-6 against them in these past 12 years. :ohmy
If there is any team in the NFL as scary as the Colts, it's the Chargers. And with our injury situation and a short week, the Titans are going to have play a perfect game to beat them on Christmas.
The Titans can beat anyone, but this is a huge challenge.

Chargers are banged up but then again so are we. They have clinched though right? so they may rest some players and try to get healthy. We'll need our A+++ game for sure especially if we are down #53 and Tony Brown.

They clinched the AFC West, in years past they have never rested players. They simply refuse to lose in December.

they will still be playing for the #2 seed, either a Patriots loss or a Chargers win and they get it.

Depends, i think our offense can handle a shootout. And Finny is becoming a shutdown corner. If our lbs play well and harper doesn't suck Too bad. Then we have a chance

If Bulluck and Thornton are both out our D is going to be in serious trouble. We need Bulluck to help cover Gates.

We won't beat the Chargers if Jeff Fisher coaches a scared game plan again. Failure to go for it on 4th and short in Dolphin territory, plus prevent-style defense after taking a 24-6 lead, plus refusing to throw the ball downfield after gaining the 24-6 lead, is not a formula for winning games. The Titans won today because Chad Henne was the MVP for both teams. He drove the Dolphins up and down the field but managed to turn the ball over to the Titans just enough for them to squeak out an OT win.

Jammer got hurt during the Bengals game and never returned not sure the severity of it but it would help if he was out.

Yep. they like saving that for January, where they get punked out of the playoffs every year.

tough game... A win over us does two things. clinches the no.2 seed (i think) and ensures that they won't face us in the playoffs where it really is do or die.

At least they know how to win a game in January. Unlike the Titans.

Losing in the conference championship, and losing to the eventual SB champs in back to back years is not exactly what I would call getting punked out.
13-3 and homefield advantage, and losing to the 6th seed wildcard, however...

The Chargers are the "better" team. But, they are beatable if we win the turnover battle AND both sides of the ball play the whole 60 mins. A let down like today will cause a loss on Friday. Best case, we'll have to have our A+ game and they'll need to be less sharp than they've been during their current streak. But, it can happen, especially with THESE Titans.

We really need Tony Brown and KBull on the field. Two of our best players on D and once they went out the D collapsed. We looked like crap in the base D and in the nickel without Keith. Thought we played much better once we started mixing in the dime package.

Very difficult match up for us. We need to play TWO GOOD HALFS against them. Yesterday we only played well in one half. One half on Friday won't get it done..IMO

just like the last few teams we have played, the chargers will pick on N.Harper and will more than likely be successful. To win this one, our offense has to score over 30 (which it is very capable of) and our D will need to force a couple turnovers.
Possible: Yes
Likely: Not Really
This team has accomplished alot of unlikely things this season though.

We can beat 'em. Do I think we can? Not sure. But play a half like the first half yesterday, and we can win. Hoping for a positive injury report today.

"A- game". Ah, there's the rub. What we need is to get over our perception that the Chargers are the better team. We've had that for years, even when we were obviously much better then they.

No, we can't win if Fisher is unable to give our Offense a much better plan, and the edge to win games. San Diego is a much more complete team than Miami is.
Secondly...keep a guy like Harper on the DB. That's like a "Get a Win On Here" card. Hood played really well and gave strength to our DB's....why he can't play? Because Fisher is as stubborn as he can get. Rivers will find a happy passing day on Harper's side.

I think we should put McRath in Keith's spot, keep Tully in the middle and put Keglar or Allred in Thornton's old spot. The other option would be to put Tulloch in Keith's spot and put McRath in the middle and move him outside to Thornton's spot when we're in the nickel. I'm worried about Keglar and Allred.
I hope Cecil has some aces up his sleeve. I hope someone puts a big hurt on Rivers. I hope the pass defenders defend. I hope they implode.
Is there enough hope for all that?

I don't think McRath has the size to play middle. I would feel alot more comfortable with Tully taking Keith's spot and have Keglar or Allred play middle. Tully has started at OLB before.

"A- game". Ah, there's the rub. What we need is to get over our perception that the Chargers are the better team. We've had that for years, even when we were obviously much better then they.
besides last year (just based record alone after all we did have a fairly easy schedule to 13-3, and lost to a baltimore team who had played like over 10 straight games without a bye week and we were fresh as a daisy and still lost...who is to say SD wouldnt have rolled right in and Baltimore'd us?) i will say that were better last year just based on our 13-3 record but in the LT era I truly cannot remember a season where you can honestly, objectively say that we have ever been better than san diego. Have we even ever beaten them in the 2000's? Seems to me at least in every meaningful game we have played against them we have lost. Sure we had a chance when we lost in OT, sure we had a chance at San Diego in the playoffs that year but bottom line is that they beat us everytime. So i would say "Lets finally get over the hump and beat San Diego and PROVE we are better than them" rather than losing to them everytime and just talking

McRath is actually bigger than Tulloch.
but i agree w/ TTP77 if anything i am worried about Keglar or Allred in the starting line up.

He played it in college. and Carltron is right he's bigger than Tulloch. and McRath has started at OLB before too just on Thornton's side.
