View Full Version : No clear cut "team to root for" situation

This is a really tough week to say which teams we want to win. Here is what we do know:

1. Titans over Chargers (must happen)
2. Colts over Jets (if this fails, Jets have to lose next week or Miami has to win out)
3. Patriots over Jaguars (if this fails, Jags have to lose in Cleveland)
4. Eagles over Bronocs (if this fails, Ravens have to lose out, Steelers have to lose to Miami)

The other two games that impact us are much less clear:

1. If we feel confident that the Colts will beat the Jets (late game), then we want the Texans to beat the Dolphins. But if the Jets win, than a Dolphins win is much better.

While we beat the Dolphins in a head-to-head tiebreaker, we can lose in a Dolphins-Titans-Ravens tiebreaker if the Ravens one loss is to the Steelers. We also lose a Dolphins-Titans-Broncos tiebreaker if the Broncos one loss is the Chiefs.

2. If the Steelers beat the Ravens, the Titans could get as high as the #5 seed. However, the Steelers would have to lose to Miami and the Ravens have to lose to the Raiders for the Titans to pass them both.

If the Ravens beat the Steelers, then Denver has to lose out to the Eagles and Chiefs.

I really have more faith in the Steelers and Ravens both losing in week 17 on the road than the Broncos losing at home to the Chiefs. I will be cheering for the Steelers.

---------------------------------------

As you can see, there is some complexity here. The important thing is that we beat the Chargers and have the Ravens or Broncos lose to survive till next week. If we lose or both of those teams win, then the playoff chase is over.

As much as I hate to say it I think the Steeler game is a MUST win for us.

That being said. We need EITHER the Steelers or Eagles to win or we are DONE. If both lose it's OVER. I'm pretty sure. Go Pennsylvania.

Ravens have only won 2 road games all year. Oakland is beating everyone lately. I like the Raiders' chances.

Raiders have been flip flopping wins and losses lately which means they are due to win their last game :D

If we get in the playoffs and that involves the Colts finishing 16-0, so be it.

Everyone is 0-0 come week 18.

I'm not getting any hopes up whatsoever....Even if we don't make it, it has still been a pretty joyous season....I will take that as it is and be down for whatever.

My head hurts, but at least it hasn't exploded. There's lots of room in it, so the pressure doesn't build up that much. :)

So we HAVE to have either Denver or Baltimore lose this week. If they both we win are out? RIGHT?

Yes. That's the only easy math - if both win they are guaranteed no worse than 9-7 and have us on the tiebreakers. (conf record all that matters)

Some of those losses early of winnable games (PIT, HOU and NYJ come to mind) are gonna now come back to really bite us in the ass.

:lmao

I like to think that every game my team plays is winnable. I guess that is what makes me a fan. I am sure my team agrees with me. Why else do they go out and play every week?

I just see them as offsetting some of the wins we have had lately. Our luck has evened out now.

they just said on nfl network "if the titans are able to defeat the Chargers Christmas Night, they will control their own destiny going into the final week"

do these people do no research at all or do they just say random stuff

I just heard on NFL Network if we win against the Chargers we control our own destiny if the Dolphins, Ravens, Jets and Jaguars all lose....lol....anyone know if that's true?

Jimmyd24
12-24-2009, 07:13 PM
no cause if the ravens lose, that means the steelers won and they hold head to head tie breaker over us

so there is no way for us to control our own destiny after this week

Jimmyd24
12-24-2009, 07:15 PM
if that above situation happens
all we need is for the dolphins to beat the steelers

we only hold one tie breaker and that is a three way tie between
denver-titans-dolphins

Well someone needs to tell NFL Network to get their facts straight cause they just said it again..(I rewinded the DVR to double check)... If we beat the Chargers the Jaguars, Dolphins, Jets and Ravens all would have to lose this week for us to have a win and in game next week!

id rather have ravens win & the broncos lose out. i think that is what would most likely happen anyways. i reaaally dont see baltimore losing to the raiders.
but if that happens & miami wins out too, i dont think we would get in.

denver-titans-dolphins

We only have tiebreakers over the Dolphins and Texans.

We also can't win any three way ties to get the #5 seed. We just don't want to be in a situation where the Titans and Miami and either the Ravens or Broncos are in a 3-way tie. We are ok if the Broncos beat the Chiefs and lose to the Eagles. We are also ok if the Ravens beat the Steelers but lose to the Raiders. We are not ok if the game results are switched.

Whatever. I'm just going to be super elated if we get in and not surprised if we don't. All these scenarios give me the same feeling as picking lottery numbers. My numbers are all lucky TO ME, but that doesn't mean I'll win.
