Titans vs Chargers: OGT Week 16

Quarterbacks
Philip Rivers is as hot as any quarterback in the NFL, even if he hasn’t gotten the attention. Titans QB Vince Young is also on a roll.

Running Backs
Chris Johnson is a threat to score any time he touches the ball. LaDainian Tomlinson has struggled to find running room most of the season.

Receiver / Tight End
TE Antonio Gates is having another Pro Bowl-type season and WR Vincent Jackson is a downfield threat. The Titans have gotten a boost with the return of WR Justin Gage.

Offensive Line
The Titans have allowed only 14 sacks while opening lots of holes for Chris Johnson. The Chargers are dealing with injury issues at center and have had trouble in the run game.

Defensive Line
DE William Hayes has been a bright spot for the Titans and DT Tony Brown has also played well. The Chargers get most of their pressure from linebackers in the 3-4 scheme.

Linebacker
Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips have combined for 11 sacks. The Titans need some youngsters to step up in the wake of injuries to Keith Bulluck and David Thornton.

Secondary
CB Cortland Finnegan has been shutting down receivers and the Titans are coming off a three-interception game. Chargers CBs Antonio Cromartie and Quentin Jammer have three picks apiece.

Special Teams
The Chargers have one of the NFL’s best kicking games. The Titans are good as well, led by PK Rob Bironas. The Titans lack firepower in the return game.

Coaching
Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger has worked wonders with Vince Young. Norv Turner has the Chargers peaking at just the right time.

Intangibles

Titans RT David Stewart vs. Chargers LB Shawne Merriman

These two have a history. In 2007, Stewart was involved in a hit that injured Merriman’s knee, and the linebacker viewed it as intentional. Titans LT Michael Roos will also see plenty of the pass-rushing Merriman, but Stewart will try to punish him any chance he gets.

Titans S Michael Griffin vs. Chargers TE Antonio Gates

The Titans have tried a number of things to slow down Gates, who has 75 catches for 1,071 yards and six touchdowns this season. Keith Bulluck is lost for the year, so he’s not an option to defend Gates. Griffin will likely get the most shots to slow Gates down, but the Titans need to limit his touches.

Coaches are stupid. Hood is such a great player and that was shown by the fact that he wasn't even on a roster until we picked him up in the middle of the season. Hood's greatness has been shown by the fact that multiple teams have let him go.

I think I might just be contradicting myself.

This love affair that some of you seem to have with Hood is mind boggling. Harper may not be that good but Hood hasn't done anything in his career to make any coaching staff think he is worth having out there on game day. Being in the right place at the right time to get a few interceptions doesn't make you good. It just means you caught a bad pass.

What exactly was he supposed to do on that play? He was in good position and both him and the receiver were fighting for position. That was as much offensive pass interference as it was defensive.

honestly i just dont like the way he has been playing tonight. it looked to me like he was holding on to him from the start and it was just way to obvious for it not to be called. i know that the receiver was also locked onto him but they will call that on the D everytime and i am still mad at him for pushing gates down on the 3rd down earlier in the game when they werent going to complete the pass anyways.

My philosophy in sports and life in general is that one should never put all their hopes and dreams onto the backs of one or two others. That is what this team did the first six games and what it has done tonight. Instead of taking the burden onto their own selves, they have given it up because they think they can't play without those people.

At least that's the way I look at it. I also think this attitude has been endorsed, whether consciously or not, by the coaching staff.

I'm also sure many will disagree with me, which is ok.
