Urban Meyer is stepping down as coach of the Florida football team, athletics director Jeremy Foley announced Saturday afternoon in a release.
"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer said in statement. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family.
Meyer will coach his last game for Florida against Cincinnati on Jan. 1 at the Sugar Bowl.

it's just a lame excuss to get him out of the trouble he'll be in year's to come with no Tebow and numerous other starters he'll be losing this year. Florida will take a huge set back for a few years and Meyer doesn't want to go down with them....kinda smart, but a coward move. I mean who doesn't have "non life threating" health issues? I call BS

Maybe its like Star Wars when Padme dies of a broken heart after Anakin turns into Darth Vader. Urban can't handle losing St. Tebow.
All kidding aside, get well Urb. :boohoo

There is something very fishy about all of this. Now they are saying he's staying at Florida in a different role. Didn't he just get a contract extension?
Sorry guys, he's not going to the NFL. Not many good college coaches make good NFL coaches.

He also had major health problems at Utah and ND with his brain. A cyst I do believe...

Urban realized Lane and the VOLS are building a powerhouse in Knoxville and he didn't want to endure the annual beat-down the Gators are gonna get for the foreseeable future.

I like the Volunteers too, but let's not get crazy. It's going to take a few more years for the Volunteers to be able to contend for the SEC Championship. Plus, Florida is a major talent pool. Florida will always be tough because they don't even have to leave their backyard to recruit top-notch athletes.

So how would you like to be his daughters who said they were glad to have their daddy back, and now one day later he has a spirited practice and he's changed his mind?
I know I sound mean, but I think this was a bit overblown and overdramatic.
I would have respected his decision to step down, no problems there. Now he's just made the pressure worse.

Maybe this whole resignation thing was just an "Urban" myth.
Heard he's also considering going into the Hot Dog & lunch meat business. :doh

Sounds like a certain a-hole quarterback that plays in the NFL.
