"That record would mean a lot to me," he said.

And it would mean a lot to the Titans (7-8). Johnson's ambitions might be the only significant motivation they have in taking on the Seahawks (5-10), who are coming off a 48-10 loss at Green Bay.

"It's something we pay close attention to, as well as he does, I'm sure," Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said after Friday's 42-17 loss to the Chargers. "So it should be a fun game to watch."

Even defensive players share the goal. Cornerback Cortland Finnegan said his motivation is beating Seattle and "get Chris Johnson 2,000 rushing yards."

I know we have a win to hope for and breaking even again, but it doesn't mean as much to me. If CJ gets his yards the win should follow.

C'mon Titans, you can do it. I'm damn near flatlined at this point and need resuscitation.

I am flatlined since the 0-6 start...but is really good to see CJ having the chance of breaking that type of a record.

It will be only good for him, but it will be a bright spot in this Titans' failure year.

There are a lot of plot lines to this game on Sunday.

1. Obviously CJ breaking records is first. As TTP77 posted earlier, there are 4 different records he could break, with 3 of them quite likely.

2. Get the Titans to 8-8. No team has ever started 0-6 and made it to 8-8. That is big. Also, Vince has never played for a losing team in high school, college, or pros. I would like to keep that streak alive.

3. Division placement. This is highly subjective in terms of what the fans want. We could finish 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in the division depending on the results of this last day of games. This affects our schedule next year.

4. Draft position. Titans could get anywhere between #11 and #22. That's pretty crazy.

5. Beating Seattle. Fisher is 0-4 against the Seahawks. A win would break that streak and mark the first time the Titans have won 2 West Coast games in the same season. It would also give us an 11 game win streak against the NFC.

I just had this vision of Fisher deciding to play LD this weekend, just to see if he wants to keep him on the roster. In fact, I'm going to predict that we see a lot of those rookies, third liners, etc. who haven't played a quarter all told. We shall see just how strong my psychic powers are!

it would be interesting to know if he would be the first 2000 yard rusher on a losing team. we all know that having that great of a running game should win you more than 2000 yards.

Sanders 1997: 9-7 record lost in wildcard
Simpson 1973: 9-5 (14 game season)
Dickerson 1984: 10-6
Davis 1998: 14-2
Lewis 2003: 10-6

So yes we would be the worst team with a 2000 yard rusher

Although OJ was the only player to do it in 14 games, his average per rush is not significantly higher than CJs. He averaged 6.0 yards per carry in 1973. CJ is currently averaging 5.8 yards, so it is not out of the possibility that he may be able to reach that with a monster game.

the years that sanders and oj rushed for more then 2000 they both were on winning teams.

If he breaks another real long one he has a chance to pull back to 6.0 or better per carry. I'd like to see that happen, too.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Titans running back Chris Johnson leads the NFL with 1,872 rushing yards on 322 carries. Additionally, he has 47 receptions for 483 receiving yards, giving him a league-high 2,355 total yards from scrimmage.

With one game remaining, Johnson is on the cusp of reaching several historical markers. Among other potential milestones, he needs 63 rushing yards to become the franchise’s all-time single-season rushing leader (1,934 by Earl Campbell in 1980), 128 rushing yards to become the sixth player to reach 2,000 in a season, and 75 scrimmage yards to break Marshall Faulk’s 1999 NFL record of 2,429 scrimmage yards.

Titans running back Chris Johnson needs...

• 63 rushing yards to break Earl Campbell’s single-season franchise rushing record

• 75 scrimmage yards to break Marshall Faulk’s NFL’s single-season scrimmage yards record

• 100 rushing yards for his 11th consecutive 100-yard game (T-2nd, NFL history)

• 128 rushing yards to become the sixth player in NFL history with 2,000 rushing yards in a season

• 128 rushing yards and 17 receiving yards to become the first player in NFL history with 2,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a season

• 234 rushing yards to break Eric Dickerson’s NFL single-season rushing record

Also a win and getting us to .500 would give VY a huge boost in his Comeback Player of the Year Campaign.

yall may want to win now but i want the easy schedule and a better pick....but i want records for cj....after about one day nobody is gonna care if we were 7-9 or 8-8....bottom line we need to break the record and lose the game and have as high a pick as possibld to better our odds of getting a playmaker. playoffs appearances can be based of strength of schedule....which is a big rreason y we were 13-3 last year..i feel sorry for the nfc east....jeez

What is CJ's record going to do for the team? I rather see our team play a tougher schedule to make them a tougher team. I hate to see this team get wins handed to them then playoffs come they get beat in the first round by a tough team. All the early draft picks do is cost the team more money. Teams get playmakers by drafting smart.

Mora said rookie outside linebacker Aaron Curry is again unlikely to play Sunday, improving the chances of Tennessee's Chris Johnson reaching the 2,000-yard rushing mark in Seattle.

Curry, the fourth overall pick in April's draft, has had a neck and shoulder stinger since Dec. 20. Cornerback Josh Wilson is a question mark because of a hip pointer sustained against the Packers.

Seattle is really banged up on D. CJ may get the record after all.

I'm completely flatlined myself. I was so pumped before the beginning of the season, and even VY coming back only mildly stirred me because I wasn't sure how he would do. I'm about ready to start getting excited about FA and the draft in earnest, but I still have sick feeling that something is still fundamentally wrong and it worries me about next season.

Still, it would be sweet to get to 8-8, and even better for CJ to break some records.

If CJ hasn't broken all 6 of those listed records by the late fourth quarter and we are winning, I say we throw it so the game is tied and go for OT to get more yards for CJ.

We could also start every drive inside our own 10 yard line so that we have to go 90+ yards each time. (Oh wait...I think we already have that plan. :p)

It won't change our schedule-we play the same teams as our division rivals except for one game based on record I believe. And this last game can't affect our draft position much, but I'm not smart enough, and don't actally care enough to figure that out. :)

A team should ALWAYS play to win. Several folks wanted to blow it off after 0-6, and that would have denied us a pretty exciting season. Just win, Baby!:thumbsup

It does make the difference between playing the Bills and Browns (two of the worst franchises this decade) and playing the Steelers/Ravens and Jets/Dolphins.

And as I posted earlier, our draft could be as high as #11 with a loss to as low as #24 with a win. So it can affect our draft position greatly.

I still want the win. :thumbsup

I feel like this.I want CJ to get the record but it is more important to go 8-8.If for some reason he does'nt get it,it will only push him harder in terms of next year.More importantly though, is the fact we have the potential for some of our other guys to be breakout players.Britt has proven himself to be more of a go to guy than Washington to me.Jared Cook showed me his potential (when he plays.)Next year all eyes will be on CJ so who will help carry the load?Who will step up? That's what I want to know.We will only win it all when guys take it up a notch. If you look at all the teams with a ring guys made the play that either won the game or changed it.
Case in point. When Al left who stepped up on our D-Line? No one did something that makes me or anyone else say their D-Line is still a force.I'm not taking anything away from our guys, but if they would stop jumping offsides then I would have somethimg else to talk about. If we played every game like we did against Arizona we would still be in the hunt imo.

You're in the toughest division in the AFC, over the past several years. INDY, come on. You split with Houston and the Jags imploded this year.

I'm not afraid to say it...what is still fundamentally wrong is Fisher. His view, his thinking ways and the way that he is managing the team. The players aren't sold on him anymore.

The players that have pride, a great gut feeling and that are looking at the big picture are the ones that still did things right...not because of the coaching, but to help their teammates and their own causes.

:beathorse I don't understand how you guys can root for or want on your team a back that only gets positive yards 1 out of 10 carries.

That is pathetic and pitiful!!! That is not a RBs job. :beatdeadhorse

Ok, I think I've had my fill of this nonsense "CJs negative carries" posts. So for the rest of this year, I will not bring it up anymore. :lol

I hope CJ breaks the 2000yds barrier and just to rub it in the face of those that don't want to see him do it, he breaks ED's record and hell I hope he gets some passes to get that rushing/passing record thingy too.

Maybe because they know they are constantly being evaluated and their time with this team is limited and they are possibly auditioning for another job? Maybe because they have pride and despite the coach(es) they want to perform well and win? I don't know one way or the other whether the players are sold on the coaching staff or not but I think there were indications that there was some degree of disenchantment.

Someone brought this up at Titans Central, that CJ could be the founding member of the 2000/500 club. No player has ever had 2000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in the same season before, but CJ should get there.

How about 138 yards to make it 2010?
