I am not sure that I heard it correctly yesterday but I swear that Steve wyche said that if there was an uncapped year that it would add 2 years to a restricted free agents contract thus not making them free agents at all.
Can someone fill me in on this if they have any knowledge of it?

Under current salary cap rules, a player that has at least four years of experience in the league is eligable for unrestricted FA, and thus those with 3 or less are restricted meaning, that whatever team they were signed to gets to "tender" them with a draft pick, so if another team wants to sign said player, the new team would have to give their draft pick in order to sign. Also the original team has 1 week I believe to match the offer and keep their player. EX. Lendale white is a RFA-say we tender him a 2nd ( just go with it, don't know if he is valued that high) and say the texans were to sign him, then we would have one week to match their offer, and keep white, or let him leave and recieve the texans 2nd round pick.
However if there was an uncapped year, instead of needingh at least 4 years exp, a player would need 6 to become an Unrestricted FA, and thus 5 years and less would make any player a restricted FA.
I was also reading that if a player went undrafted then no compensation can be rewarded. So guys like Brown/Ball/Vickerson (if they were to leave) we wouldnt get nuthun in return. (i think those guys were all undrafted)
Prolly more info that you needed, but it should answer your question
I believe we can also tag two players in an uncapped year too, but I don't think we will have any true free agents to tag lol. Poor Scaife, franchised this season, next he will just get a tender.
