View Full Version : What I learned Today...

Start with the defense-
1.There was a reason hood was not starting in favor of Harper. Hood missed at least 4 tackles in the half that led to extra yards, not real good effort when it comes to tackling at all, and we all know Harper was a very sure tackler, With that said, Hood (even though getting picked on all day) I thought he covered well, (at least better than harper) considering he hasnt played in 6 weeks.

2. Marks was very active all day, and even though he may have not put up huge numbers in the stat sheet, he was flying around out there. I think he (along with Jones being healthy) will def. save us from having to draft a DT in round 1.

3. Run defense was pretty bad, although could be credited by having 2 young outside LBs. Which may be why there were so many 5 down lineman looks in the game.

Offense:
1. I realize that the gameplan was to get CJ his yards and may have been able to get more If Young played a lil better. He was very inaccurate today, especially on the easy throws..ex- screen pass to CJ early on, another check down to CJ, and the throw to Hall near the goaline-off the top of my head.

2.Once again I realize today was CJ day, but where was Britt, 1 catch, get him involved. And no kick returns don't count. Next year they need to get him the ball like they did CJ this year. (Meaning just get the best playmakers the ball) and he has been pretty good on limited chances

Specail Teams:

1. I'll just talk in general here:
We def. need to address all expects heavily (maybe except field goal unit) but kick and punt coverage teams, need some upgrades. I know you don't go out and sign/draft talent specifically for special teams, but something is needed. Every time Britt caught a return, he was having guys right in his face, which shouldnt be happening every time on the kick return team. Other teams can start consistently on the 30-35 yard line, while it seems after our kickoff return attempt, they are still in their own redzone.

I have to disagree. I thought he played very well for having been deactivated for 6 weeks and not having gotten the work. And honestly I could see Harper missing those same tackles. Hood looked good in coverage and I think he should have been playing all along because he kept looking better and better while he was playing earlier in the season and then we benched him.

We don't expect our guys to play great the first week of preseason, why should we expect a guy to be completely up to speed when he comes in in the middle of the season?

I think you may have misread what I said, cuz we saying the same thing. I though hood covered well for not playing in 6 weeks

VY was very inaccurate today, yet still made some smart throws and played well enough for us to win. That's a big jump imo. Im anxious to see him back next season after a full offseason under dinger as the #1 QB

I'd like to know why Harper was playing with a dodgy arm, especially as Hood had covered well for him http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/sports/titans-harper-forearm-injury-never-really-healed. Also, why were McCourty and Mouton active and Hood not, yet Hood starts when Harpers out....purely for Special Teams?

I could write an end of season report on this matter, let alone the rest of the team ;)

A cornerback's number #1 priority is covering the receiver assigned to him per the play call. Break up the pass, intercept it when possible, and tackle the receiver if the first two don't happen. Being a sure-fire solid tackling machine is not the norm for the position.

Deion Sanders was no great tackler, neither was Samari Rolle, nor are most top-flight corners. Be in position to prevent pass completions, don't make tackles after the completion. Hood was better at prevention, Harper is better at after the catch cleanup. I'll take Hood.

yea sorry no there's no way Rod Hood is better overall than Harper.

I and I think others respectfully disagree. Harper was playing with an unhealed injury. Absolutely, Rod Hood was better overall than Harper under those circumstances.

I already said a healthy Harper is better. Hood was ****ty in run support today. I don't know what you saw on TV but I was there and I saw it with my own eyes.

well harper is a liabilty in coverage, hood in run support.

looks like we should address DB in FA or the draft.

I thought Hood would play better really. At this point I'd rather see Mouton or McCourty and see what we have with them.

It showed up on TV too. He had several ball carriers in his arms and let 'em go. But he seemed to follow up each of his biggest flubs with a good play.:huh

I never got to see Harper play in person so I can't compare them all that well (everything looks different in person) but Hood looked lost most of the day. Half of the time Hood didn't look like he knew where he was supposed to be and when he was in position he was either getting burnt or missing tackles.

He did make a couple of nice plays but for the most part I thought he looked like a college CB going up against NFL players. Today he showed why no team bothered to pick him up before the season started.

Alan Lowry, fire him.

Makes me appreciate Finnegan even more!

Hood was not the upgrade over Harper that I have been hearing about. Harper has his issues but obviously so does Hood.

I agree with Yvette. We have Finnegan and he is a play maker, we need to get him some help back there. I do like what Fuller brings to the party on most weeks.
