The upgrade is to upgrade the board from version 3.8.1 to 3.8.4. It has to be at that later version for us to upgrade to version 4.

Now that I know what went wrong with the last upgrade attempt, I plan on going through with it tonight to get us to 3.8.4, and maybe even 4.0 if that goes smooth.

It may look like you have to relog in again, but you really don't need to. Just use the site like you would normally, and you should be fine.

right now the board is very hard for me to read.
the font is very tiny and the black print on grey background makes it even harder.
(it is especially tiny in the reply box.. as i am typing this it looks like the small print of some medical advert)

I do not touch anything. A five year old can do more on a computer than I can. hell I still type with one finger. This is the reason that I am freaking out on what is going on. My computer gets the least workout than any in the world. Every time I try to explore on it I screw it up for days and have to call a family member to fix it. I trust the powers to be to get this board back to normal just let me know when your done so I know when to seek help. :lol

Oh for fun - we are back I see. The Yahoo server for my websites went down on the weekened too, so all my toys were taken from me. (In all the years I was on Geocites I never had that happen, 4 months with Yahoo and It has been one dumb thing after another (and for a host that's more expensive?).

Anyhoo - looks nice and blue and stuff. My only suggestion is that we need some Titan related icons (instead of the word bubble thingy on the index page). I don't envy the work y'all had to do on this, go have a cold one on me!

Well, I've read the thread, and I'm not real clear. After you have finished tuning this up, is it intended to have the smae basic look/style as before? What I see here is very basic, even crude, compared to the old look. It seems to work OK, and I understand that there are probably many improvements that aren't really visible to users. Am I supposed to do something on my end?

One thing I did to make it look a little better was to change the forum skin from "default" to "Dark Vision". To do so, click on "Forum Actions" (between Community and Quick Links near the top), select "Forum Settings", and at the very bottom is "Forum skin". You only have two choices, which I just mentioned. At least it makes the type look normal sized instead of huge.

When will "reply" be back to normal? Right now, all replies are done in the "quick reply" window.

I honestly don't know if we can make this interface appear as before. I just found out there was no manual published with this version and I never needed one before. The old interface was incredibly intuitive and so darned easy to navigate. I think we had it customized within two days but this is ridiculous. I'm reading through the support forums and NO ONE is happy with this version. Upgrade my ass. Reminds me of Windows XP to Vista and why 7 is easier again. It's like they forget not everyone is a programmer. FUBAR!

I'm ready to revert back and to hell with security upgrades. We weren't having problems before and like the old saying goes, it ain't broke don't fix it.

i have signatures cut off, and misplaced graphics... and gaps(like big gaps) between posts with just blue inbetween... really odd...misplaced graphics are stuff like the report thread button is a half inch below the reputation button inbtween the gray and blue...very odd...and someones signature got cut off halfway by 309s post up above...

I've got a pretty wide screen resolution so anything related to smaller resolutions won't be an issue on mine, which doesn't exactly help anyone else.

In all likelyhood it's the way a browser is loading things on the user end and not the message board end.

Graphics, screen resolution and browsers:

I got on 3 different PC's and two different laptops. I played with all resolutions/browser settings in IE, FF and Chrome. Haven't checked Opera but seems like TF23 uses it and is fine. Everything loads fine with all (updated) browsers at all resolutions/settings, except IE. Zoom (over 100%) always takes the reply box off the screen. Everything used to be designed to IE standards but looks like they're getting left at the gate.

I know just enough about computers to get me in trouble, but it's looking like any issues are related to IE/your PC. Or wireless device.

I think the reason for the extra brightness is that there's not as much of a "buffer" of dark color on the sides anymore. The new board style is what they refer to as fluid and will always be approximately 90% of the total resolution of your screen. It'll stretch out to 90% no matter how big or small the resolution of ones' screen is. The old one was a set width and because of that it seemed "darker."

That's one of the explanations I read on the vBulletin forums as many are saying this version of board seems brighter than previous versions.

Just a heads up but later tonight I'm going to be installing software which gave us our homepage on the old version of the board - the one with Kuharshy's blog, player charities, etc. If you log in and see the board is offline for a few minutes, you'll know what I'm doing. It should only be offline for a few minutes but it requires I shut the board off so that no one can access it and do something that makes the board FUBAR'ed.

That's one of the explanations I read on the vBulletin forums as many are saying this version of board seems brighter than previous versions.

After doing some investigating i found out it's a bug in version 4.0.1 of the software which is what we're currently running. It has been fixed in version 4.0.2. I'll download and install that update sometime today.

Look in the Tools drop down menu and see if Compatability View is selected.

Before Bobcat installed the bug fix last week, I put IE in compatability view and forgot about it until I posted a few minutes ago. I had the deep blue sea too in IE (I'm using it now) until I deselected that option. If that's not it I'll keep checking vb's forum.

At the very top of your screen (don't scroll just look up) you'll see a Help menu. Click it and select About then see what version of IE (aka your browser aka that blue button with an E) you're running.

IE7 doesn't have compatibility view (I just learned this). That feature is in IE8 and 'reverts' the browser to IE7.

Before the bug fix a few days ago, the software was compatible with IE7, not IE8. After the bug fix, the software is no longer compatible with IE7. The only suggestion I have is to ask when your IT peeps are going to upgrade your browsers.

Bobcat might be able to shine more light on this or even a different one ;)

Try using IE7 or IE8 in compatibility view (which is IE7) and trust me you'll see :lol
