Anybody else watching? I watched Jason Lamy Chappuis do a Seabiscuit imitation and beat USA's Johnny Spillane in the Nordic combined today.

Didn't watch the lugers, especially after Kumaritashvili died. My husband told me he saw video footage of his death on the TV and that kinda turned my stomach. What ever happened to the good old days when they didn't broadcast that kind of thing?

Are you sure about that? I know it wasn't being shown on NBC but I guess it could have been on one of their sister stations.

That has little to do with them airing the accident right at the start of the Opening Ceremony. There were too many families watching NBC at that time and there is no way in hell they should have shown what they showed. You can report on tragic accident without showing the gruesome details of a mans death and you can damn sure report it without showing close-ups of the mans bloody face.

I'd have absolutely no problem with them showing the video on the news, but there was no need to show it at the start of their Opening Ceremony coverage and there was definitely no need to show it 3 times.

Now onto the actual Winter Olympics topic.

I enjoyed the womens moguls last night. The amount of wear and tear their bodies have to go through is insane to think about. Outside of that it was also a really close competition which was nice.

The speed skating is always fun to watch as well.

Today I have watched a little bit of the mens moguls but but that's about it. The cross country skiing mixed with shooting a gun has never made much sense to me so I've never been interested in watching that and I can't stand figure skating.

I don't watch the luge because it's like car racing. Outside of the crashes or near crashes it bores me and with there already being a death in the event this year I just can't watch it.

well they kept on repeating it..
not just showing it to the point of the crash in a long shot like a saw some place else..
but in close up and in still shots of him actually hitting the beam..

i just couldnt believe they were doing that..
.
i just finally changed the channel.

I was extremely disappointed by the CTV Network's decision up here to show the death. I doubt anyone needed to see it. Personally I was mortified at what I saw, and I know for sure tons of kids saw that. Not cool - still photos would have been sufficient.

I work night so I have not seen much but I turned on the TV in the office to watch the final 6 ladies in the singles figure skating competition. That's probably the best singles event I've ever seen. All 6 were brilliant. Asada did wonderful, she had two small mistakes but otherwise she was brilliant. But Kim is in a world of her own. Simply perfect. She's the best skater I've seen since Kristi Yamaguchi and Katerina Witt. The Canadian received the bronze and that was nice.

Congrats to them all, they did themsleves and there Countries proud.

I don't really follow hockey, but this has been fun so far. I was on FB and I see a post saying 1-0 USA, then 2-0, 3-0, all the way up to 6-0 like every few minutes. Crazy.

Not much of a hockey fan, but I watched the USA - Finland game. Just hope they can pull it off Sunday. Would be nice to see another miracle on ice.

It doesn't matter who may beat on Sunday, it won't be another Miracle On Ice. I've never witnessed another sports moment that even comes close. It was Super Bowl III on steroids. I do hope we can pull it out though. Either way, this group has much to be proud of. I've been so proud of so many of the Olympians from all over the world. There's something about watching someone compete for their country that is unmatched in sports.

I've had very few complaints with the Olympics thus far. I do feel that Rachael Flatt got screwed a bit last night. She didn't deserve to medal but for some reason the judges scored her much harsher than they did the remaining five of the final six. Her program was far superior to the girl that skated immediately after yet was scored several points lower. My wife, who used to be a competitive figure skater, was shocked at her score as well. She didn't have a problem with where the other girls were scored, but felt that Flatt was scored on a much stricter standard. She thought it may be from being the first of the final six to skate. Still, how do you score someone lower that skated a tougher program with no glaring mistakes vs. a girl that nearly fell twice including once just skating across the ice?

I enjoyed the figure skating even though I think it is the most over-hyped event at every winter Olympics. I also can't stand the announcers that do the skating. They always act as if each person out there has skated the greatest thing they have ever seen. I understand their enthusiasm and love for the sport but it just gets annoying after you hear too much of it. At least it does for me.

Tonight's speed skating has me at a loss. I understand the rules enough to see why Apollo got DQ'd but how is what he did any different from what the Canadian did to the guy from South Korea at the same time. The Canadian put his hands on the other skater just like Apollo did (though not as noticeable, I guess) and he also basically skated through the hand of the South Korean skater.

This is my main problem with the Winter and Summer Olympics. There are too many events that have scoring and rules that are way too open to interpretation. The biggest problems for me are figure skating in the winter and diving in the summer.

I have the same issue with "judged" events in the games. My wife gets mad as a hornet if I mention it but there is so often controversy following this type of event. At least with Apollo's event tonight the decision was made based on what's supposed to be a hard rule. But when you get into interpreting artist merit it opens the door for dishonesty.

I agree %100 TGB, Flatt was graded under a much harsher light than the other finalists. That was ridiculous.

Oh, and I'll add -at least in this year, they couldn't have overhyped the Ladies singles, all 6 were amazing,

What a game, what a finish. I haven't had that kind of unbridled joy watching sports in a long time. Downtown Toronto is a complete zoo, and we took the kids to get a sniff of a great Canadian celebration.

BTW Chuck, that Crosby goal will become the new Canadian iconic moment to join the Bobby Orr Stanley Cup winner, Lemieux's Canada Cup winner, and Paul Henderson in 1972.

Not sure how it happened, but this Olympics awoke the best in Canadians as they realized how much they love their country. The hockey gold was the icing on the cake.

It seemed that Ryan Suter of the Preds was on the ice the whole time for the USA. Do they not rotate as much in Olympic hockey? I was proud to have a Predator be so important to the USA team (and congrats to Weber for his gold medal).

The TV numbers for this game were off the charts: http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/2010/03/hockey-night-in-america-gold-medal-game.html

The Canada/USA Olympic Men's Hockey Gold Medal game drew a 17.6 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, up 46% from the '02 Gold Medal game, which featured the same two teams.

Overnight ratings for the 2006 Gold Medal game were unavailable.

Sunday's game is on pace to finish as the highest rated hockey telecast in the United States since 1980.

To put the numbers in perspective, Sunday's game drew a higher overnight rating than every World Series game since 2004 (including every game of Yankees/Phillies last year), every NBA Finals telecast since 1998, and every NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four game since at least '98.

Excluding the NFL, the 17.6 overnight for the game is the second-highest of the year for any sporting event, behind only the Texas/Alabama BCS National Championship Game in January (18.2).

Outstanding numbers for an undeserving network that did everything it could to bury their own coverage. Maybe by 2012 they'll wake up and realize that 'internet thingie' that has rendered tape delay useless.

16.6M Canadians watched the game, which is approximately 55% of the population. I suspect the number is more like 80%, because bars were stuffed and tons of Canadians had gameday parties.

I can just imagine what would've happened in Downtown Nashville had the USA won..........

One guy would have been playing hockey with himself!

I wish I could get into hockey like that. I was upset for about 15 seconds after the game. Then I forgot all about it. Had the USA won I would've been happy.........for about a minute, then I would've forgotten all about it.

Or should I say "aboot" it?
