Titans Coordinator: Team was Dealt 'Perfect Storm'

Chuck Cecil's first season as the Tennessee Titans' defensive coordinator couldn't have been more memorable - and for all the wrong reasons.

The Titans started 0-6 and hit a low point with a 59-0 rout in New England, giving up a franchise-worst 619 yards in the loss. A defense that returned 10 starters from one of the NFL's best units in 2008 lost three defensive backs to injury during the skid. Cecil took much of the blame as furious fans flooded message boards and radio shows demanding that he be fired.

Cecil looks back now a few months later and calls it a trying time.

"It was quite the perfect storm, I guess you'd say in a bad sort of way. If that doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger so we survived it and learned a lot from it and moved on,'' he said.

Is it too big an overstatement to say his performance next year is probably the key to our success?

could care less if it was a perfect storm or any other excuses. i dont care about injuries, teams deal with injuries and they dont get as bad as we did. what we looked like last year was clueless. people just werent where they were supposed to be and were just rambling round yelling at each other. enough with the excuses.

i do not support cecil, i wont support cecil, and i never will. and im not a greg williams homer, but he took a defense that ranked in the bottom half of the league for the last few years, didnt really add to much, and managed to beat 2 of the best QBs in the history of the NFL back to back, and 3 HOF'ers back to back to back.

u think cecil is going to ever be able to do that, no matter who is on our defense???

im not saying i think our defense is going to blow this year, or anything like that. but i do think the weak link is cecil, not the players.

I wonder about Cecil. I admit it. I don't think it was entirely his fault but I'm not comfortable yet. I think this next year will be a real litmus test.
