KPD Statement Regarding Bar Brawl

(AP) KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee incoming freshman receiver Da'Rick Rogers has been charged with misdemeanors, and Knoxville police said a half-dozen other people have been detained after an early morning bar fight.

A statement from police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said it appears several people from the Volunteers football program were involved in the fight at Bar Knoxville, just off campus on the Cumberland Avenue strip, at about 1:50 a.m. EDT Friday.

DeBusk said 18-year-old freshman receiver Rogers was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He said two bar patrons were sent to a hospital after the brawl.

City police officer Robert Capouellez was found unconscious on the street outside after the fight. DeBusk said the officer was a bar patron and was not in uniform or on duty. He was being treated for a head injury after trying to break up the brawl.

Further charges were pending.
