View Full Version : Bengals gambling big time this year

I guess when you are a franchise know for being one of the worst in the NFL, you can take some big risks in the effort of proving that you are "doing something" to change your fate.
I just question the timing. The Bengals did win the AFC North last year. While they didn't win a playoff game, they were pretty good. Now they have OchoCinco, Pacman, and TO on the same team. Pacman and TO didn't exactly light up Dallas when they were teammates, and you have to wonder if all three of them can co-exist on the same team.
Dallas made the playoffs the year after they dumped both Pacman and TO. Can the Bengals actually reach the playoffs again by adding them? :huh

I think the TO signing is plain stupid. They made the playoffs last year thanks in part to running a ball control offense. To keep both of them happy they are going to have to pass a lot more especially considering that half of TO's contract is being paid based on incentives. How can you sign him to that contract and think it is a good deal? The guy was most likely going to complain about not getting the ball enough as it is. Now you make it worse by telling him he'll only get his money if he catches the ball more.
Have fun with that headache.
I don't think Pacman will be an issue though. I'm betting the only reason he gets attention from the media is because he is either playing well or not playing well.

I have as much dislike for the Bengals as I do like for the Reds. I hope this blows up in their face. They made the playoffs last year, now its time for them to crawl back into their shell for 2 or 3 years. Even Al Davis thinks this team is a joke that is going nowhere.

If nothing else it gives the fans something to look forward to. What exactly, who knows?
I'll be paying attention and I'm glad it's not my team.

Even last year when they were decent the Bengals seem to lack an identity. Are they a run first defensive team or a pass happy finesse team? I can't figure them out.
T.O. will be interesting if nothing else.

What else should they do.When you are in the position they are in you don't have many options so yo have to say F-it and see what happens.I can't really blame them.T.O and OchoCinco don't have a ring so I think even though their mouths will be running as usual, they have a common goal and that is winning a ring. They both have egos but what can u expect Cincy to do?

Like I said, it's a big gamble. Either the Bengals will have a really good offense with no significant locker room issues, or they will disaster and discord. The Titans have had receiver issues for many years, and they never seriously went after TO because of his problems. I guess the Bengals are desperate enough to try anything.

I don't know...
It's the Bengals.
Their whole franchise is a gamble.
I don't see this acquisition any different

In some cases the greater the risk the better the reward.

That about says it all. :D
I predict Pacman will have an uneventful and moderately productive year. The others, not so uneventful. :)

I do hope Pac can turn his life around. Even if he's able to partially resurrect his NFL career, I hope that he's not going to be one of these guys in and out of prison after he retires.

Pac will suck, he didn't play at all last year, He'll probably look as bad as he did with Dallas. If not worse.

Pacman looked very good tonight against the Bills kick/punt returning, and they said he's been good every game. I'm not interested enough to look it up, but wish him well. :)

Thus far Pac has looked good with the exception of a fumble against the Eagles. He's made 11 tackles, 9 of them solo, and has been credited with one pass defended. He's returned 6 kickoffs for 204 yards and a 34 yard average per return. He's had a 51 yarder and a 31 yarder among his KO returns. On punt returns he's handled 5 punts for 75 yards, which works out to a 15 yard average with a 22 and a 28 yarder among his opportunities. Looks like he's serious about football again which would be good news for the Bengals.

I've watched the replay of each of their games on NFL Network and Pacman is showing a lot of flash on his returns. He's still looks average at best in the secondary, but I've always thought that about him.

The headache is going to come in Palmer's way. Handling and standing OchoCinco and TO...is going to take a LOT of tolerance. So much that it's going to be ridiculous.
How can you handle 2 WRs with such big egos? :huh

Ocho-
The flashy Bengals wide receiver boasted on his Twitter account Tuesday that -- if he scores a touchdown against the Patriots -- he is going to walk over to where the men dressed as Minutemen form up in their ranks at Gillette Stadium, take one of their rifles and shoot into the air. wonder what kind of fine that would be?
he does remind me a little of my wife however...
On November 14, the Bengals will play the Colts in Indianapolis. On Wednesday, receiver Chad Ochocinco spread some advance goodwill by buying dinner at St. Elmo's Steakhouse in Indy for 64 of his closest friends -- whom he had never before met.
Ochocinco posted an open invitation on his Twitter page,
Ochocinco has promised additional dinner outings at road games, particularly in Atlanta on October 24 and New York on Thanksgiving.
He likely plunked down close to $10,000 last night in after-tax dollars and he gave 64 people he didn't previously know (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/02/ochocinco-buys-dinner-for-64-strangers-in-indy/)
...spending money like it grows on trees.

With Pacman out for the season and the Bengals at 2-4, it sure looks like the Bengals aren't going anywhere.
What... You think Pac was the only thing keeping them afloat?

I just wanted to show that signing Pacman to your team is a sure way of missing the playoffs. ;) The guy is an albatross.
