The Tennessee Titans are getting a tremendous person and player in Kenny Britt," said Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano. "Kenny proved to be one of the nation's best college receivers and I'm sure he will have continued success as he makes the transition to the NFL. We are all very excited for Kenny and his family.

Welcome to Nashville Kenny.
....Both Fisher and Heimerdinger said they like the way Britt can get off bump coverage at the line of scrimmage and run after the catch.
“One of the hardest things for wide receivers is to get off the bump and run, and I thought Kenny was one of the top one or two looking at all those wide receivers of getting off bump and run,” Heimerdinger said.
Added Fisher, “He’s strong and explosive, and he’s an out of frame catcher. For a tall guy, he can adjust to the low ball. He’s one of those guys that if you put the ball up, he can catch it.”.....

I for one am excited. Britt is exactly the kind of WR we needed. A good run blocker, and a great hands guy. We have Nate Washington to stretch the field deep, and now a sure-handed reciever who can catch in traffic and keep the chains moving.
The ESPN analyst running the chat commented he thought the Titans O would be pretty potent. Washington/Britt to keep the defense honest enough to let Chris Johnson absolutely kill teams. And those that will commit everything to stopping CJ, we have enough weapons to punish them. We won several games they stacked 8 or more in the box last year, but barely.
Now, I think we beat teams that overcommit to stopping CJ by 2 touchdowns instead of 3 points - and perhaps a playoff game we lose by 3 turns into a 10 point win.

According to some Rutgers fans, the reason the Giants took Nicks over Britt was because when the Giants worked Britt out, he dropped a lot of passes.

ESPN Insider pick analysis:
30. Tennessee Titans
The pick: Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
What he brings: Britt has a nice blend of size, hands and better-than-expected top-end speed. Although he's a bit raw in his route-running, Britt has the potential to develop into the big-play wideout the Titans desperately need.
How he fits: Tennessee currently has Justin Gage and Nate Washington as its starters, so another playmaker on the perimeter was a good idea. There is no denying Britt's pure talent and the biggest concerns on him entering this weekend were his character. However, he is going to a team with enough veterans in the locker room that he will be forced to grow up or fail. Head coach Jeff Fisher is an experienced enough coach to understand how to push Britt's buttons.
Strengths: Big frame with solid bulk and long arms ... Not a freak athlete, but he has adequate athleticism to be a playmaker ... Consistent production statistically ... Tough player who knows how to get off the line of scrimmage ... Runs sharp routes ... Rarely drops passes ... Excellent on the fade route in the red zone ... Can adjust to the ball in the air ... Times jumps well ... Catches the ball away from his body ... Good speed after the catch ... Gives effort as a blocker ... Beat double teams often in junior season ... Does not go down easily after first hit ... Versatile as a solid deep threat, but can also make plays on screens......

I fail to find any reason to get miffed with the pick. We had a true need and took BPA at the position, and the upside of Britt is undeniable.
It wasn't a reach, and they couldn't trade down - too many teams had him high on their boards.

James (Nashville): How much upside does Kenny Britt bring to the Titan's wide out corp? Where do you see him fitting in and how good could he be in the future?
Paul Kuharsky: Tons of potential. You hope they roll through three right from opening day and it's Gage, Washington and Britt. I would think he'll see action early in the red zone at least. Someone they can finally throw fades to.

I hope this wasn't a draft party for Ravens fans.
.....Known for his ability to gain yardage after the catch, Britt closed out his career in explosive fashion, registering his 14th 100-yard receiving game vs. North Carolina State in the PapaJohns.com Bowl. That total tied the Big East Conference record that was first set by Larry Fitzgerald of Pittsburgh (2002-03). That record also included a string of five consecutive 100-yard performances during his junior campaign.....

Not a huge Kenny Britt fan. Not at all. But he's a big receiver and Mike Heimerdinger must think he can get something out of him early; I thought a center for the long term would have been smarter ... The pick I like better is Sen'Derrick Marks, to replace the lost Albert Haynesworth. He just needs to be in the rotation with the other terrific young middle-cloggers Jeff Fisher and Mike Reinfeldt have gathered.

We may be more pass heavy this season. Dinger likes to put it in the air, question is do we have a QB that can handle it without too many turnovers?
Besides, last season we were 5th in Rushing Atts with 508, Giants 7th with 502.
Titans were 27th in Passing Atts with 28.3 a game, and Giants were 21st with 30.7 per game.
As you might recall, due to the limited talent of our Passing/Receiving game, we had to "hide it" and have Kerry be a "game manager".
FO already said CJ is getting more touches too. He averaged just over 16 Atts per game, and LenDale 12. Turner lead the league with 22 per game. So I figure CJ will rush it about 18-19 per game, and rather than the Titans leaning on LenDale for those 12 carries a game with pathetic yardage, they will pass 4-6 more times a game. Enough to get them up near the top 15 passing teams.
Giants will probably pass less too this season with such a young WR corps.
TTP77
04-28-2009, 09:16 PM
I tend to agree PBV that our offense will look a bit different this next season. Part of that may be necessity as we will probably need to score more points than last season. So long as Kerry stays healthy and our O line can protect him, which I think it can, then I see no reason why he can't do what Dinger wants him to do.
