View Full Version : Favre...Here we go again? Or not

Free agent Brett Favre requested to be removed from the Jets' retired list "several weeks ago" through his agent, according to the AP.
However, Favre "insisted he had no plans to come out of retirement" at the time. Why would Favre request his release if he didn't plan to play a 19th season? He may be keeping his options open in case he gets another "itch."

Jets waived QB Brett Favre off their reserve/retired list.
Here we go again? This could mean nothing, but players waived off the retired list become unrestricted free agents, and there have been rumors lately that Favre is contemplating a return. Favre released a statement: "Bus (Cook) and Mike (Tannenbaun) have been talking about this for a while. Nothing has changed. At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football.'' It's possible Favre wants to sign a one-day contract to retire as a Packer. It's also possible that the Vikings are interested again and Favre wants to keep his options open

Brad Childress--for the love of all things decent in this world, reconsider this decision. Favre is such an attention whore he's making Lindsay Lohan look like a recluse. Favre will embarrass your organization, and you'll definitely wind up unemployed once Dorian Gray Favre falls apart as the season wears on.

Clearly he wants to play the Packers twice a year. Problem is, the Packers probably want him in Minnesota. There's nothing that scary about playing a turnover-prone QB you're very familiar with twice a season. Maybe the Favre from 10 years ago would put a little fear into Green Bay, but they know better than anyone... the guy is washed up, and has been for a few years now. I respect the hell out of what he's done in the NFL, but I agree with the notion that he's making a mockery out of his career.

Brett Favre reportedly told commissioner Roger Goodell last summer that Packers GM Ted Thompson doesn't want Favre playing for the Vikings because "he knows I'll kick his a** twice a year."
So the reports about Favre's motivation for returning are true? Favre's conversation with Goodell took place when he applied for reinstatement, hoping to be released by the Packers so he could join the Vikings. At this point, there's no doubt that Favre has a desire to come back to play. It's up to his throwing arm to cooperate.

Profootballtalk.com "caught wind of a tip" Sunday morning that free agent Brett Favre may secretly already have signed with the Vikings.
PFT then tried confirming it with a source who knows the situation for sure, and that person said only, "I will not deny it...I will leave it at that." It's possible Favre has already signed, but the Vikings are waiting to submit the contract to the NFL office. PFT also passes along another rumor that Reebok has already green-lighted the production of Vikings' No. 4 jerseys.

Barring some unforeseen major physical setback, Brett Favre will be at training camp in Mankato when they open up the end of July, a source has told WCCO's Mark Rosen.
That source said that Favre and the Vikings have indeed come to a contractual agreement, with heavy incentives. The Vikings equipment manager has already ordered number 4 purple jerseys with his name on it.
However, on Sunday, Favre's longtime agent, Bus Cooke denied a report that was out there that Favre and the Vikings had come to an agreement.
Announcement expected 4th of July weekend (http://wcco.com/vikings/brett.favre.vikings.2.1057007.html)

Quarterback Brett Favre has informed Minnesota Vikings officials that he will remain retired, according to The Star Tribune.
Coach Brad Childress confirmed the news to the Star Tribune, leaving the Vikings in an unexpected and awkward spot with training camp set to open Wednesday. The Vikings are now left to choose between Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels as their 2009 starter.
"I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division," Childress said to the newspaper. "He knows our system inside out ... This doesn't change anything about how I feel about our football team."

I think it is great. The NFL is more interesting with Brett Favre in it. He isn't what he once was but, he can still sling it.
Do I want to watch Minnesota with Sage Rosenfeld or Brett Favre? No contest there.
Regardless of his flip-flopping Brett is still a competitor and great entertainer. imo

Brett Favre will be in the Hall of Fame. But can you imagine what the Hall of Fame ceremony will be like when he is inducted? :ohmy
Fans love players that stay with one team for life. They are usually fine with a player that is on two teams. But who knows how many teams that Brett will play for when this is all over. I can seriously imagine a chilly reception that day.
He'd pay someone to induct him more than once probably, just so he'd still be relevant in the wheelchair.

You know, I don't blame him too much (I just wish he'd make a decision and stick with it). On the other hand, I also think teams (Vikings this year, Jets last) are acting stupidly by trying to get him. If you are a team after Farve, you aren't thinking about the future, you're acting out of desperation. The whole media spectacle is cheap, IMHO... but then most are, eh?

You're damn tootin!
This guy has played 18 years of QB in the NFL and has NEVER MISSED A START. Brett Favre is a football player!!!! All he does is lace up the cleats on Sunday and leave it all on the field. EVERY SUNDAY HIS ENTIRE CAREER. You have got to be kidding me, we will be lucky to ever see a QB do that again. The guy is having trouble quitting,is this really a surprise? There is not an ounce of quit in this guy, never has been.
I don't care how his season goes, he has my respect and his legacy will remain INTACT.

I'm just personally sick of his 'saga.' Play. Don't play. Just stop the theatre and press conferences, and telling national media swarms you're done, when you know deep down you're not.
As a QB, I respect the crap outta him, but he's turned himself, whether he likes it or not, into a soap opera side show, and that tears teams apart.

Why Favre wants to be that poster boy, he threw out of the window, when he didn't retire after leaving the Packers?
The guy won a Super Bowl, and the guy helped Green Bay to be on the map again. (because in case someone doesn't remember, Green Bay rode the pine for too long, before Favre arrived).
The words that descrive Favre now a days, is not "the best franchise QB, Green Bay had after.............(insert other QB they had here)".
Now he is competing with Madonna!!!

The more I look at the VIkings offense on paper, the more I think it could be the best offense in the NFL in the last decade.
-Best RB in the NFL (And Chester Taylor is a great backup RB too)
-Best offensive line (Slightly better than the Titans)
-WR Corps is a top 10 group (their QB's make them look bad IMO)
-Brett Favre, even though he will be 40, is still a great QB, love him or hate him
-Threir D is top 5 and will create plenty of turnovers so the offense can stay on the field

I think the only thing that really bothers me about the whole deal is the media attention it draws.
If it weren't for ESPN creaming their pants whenever Favre's name is mentioned I think people outside of Green Bay would probably be a little more acceptant of his return, although the retiring, un-retiring, retiring, un-retiring has been played out and is extremely redundant by now.
If Favre wants to play, and a team out there looks at their personnel and decides he's an upgrade and are willing to bring him in, then so be it; let the man play.
Just please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD stop acting as if Jesus himself descended from Heaven and decided to play QB.
