I'm actually a fan of stadiums doing this as long as it doesn't go too over the top. Boise State has a lot of mixed reviews about their field, but in reality they got put on the map mainly because of their field. The team playing as well as they have over the last decade or so has bumped them up even more-so but during the first few years all anyone knew about them was that they played on a blue field and without the field nobody would have known them at all. It helped them be able to recruit guys when they were unheard of since ESPN was in love with showing BSU home games on Thursday nights. Most complaints about the field is that it is too bright and it gives you a headache, but in person it isn't bad at all. After a little bit of time you don't notice the field when you're focusing in on the game just like any other field.
With more schools doing it it will take away from Boise's blue field but by now it is up to their team playing well to keep them being mentioned on the national level.
I think there are quite a few schools out there that have nice colors that could work well as a combination like this one here at Central Arkansas.
The main thing I like about it is that it switches schools to playing on FieldTurf and saves us all on the water being used for irrigation.
