The 2011 SEC tourney started Wednesday in Hoover, AL, and it has been an exciting couple of days so far.

Vandy beat #1 South Carolina last night in a very tight game until the 9th inning. Vandy took an early 3-1 lead, SC made it 3-2, and then both teams squandered scoring good scoring chances until the 9th. Vandy scored two of their runs on safety squeezes on their way to a 4-run inning. So Vandy won 7-2.

Vandy beat Georgia 10-0 in the first round game, putting Georgia in desperation mode. Even though Georgia has a great RPI due to a #1 strength of schedule, the NCAA rules say that a team has to be over .500 to qualify for the NCAA tourney as an at-large team. Georgia was at .500 entering the tourney, so they have to win at least 3 games (double elimination) to qualify. They did beat Auburn in the losers bracket, so they are still alive.

Florida is undefeated on the other side of the bracket. Vandy's win last night was huge for two reasons. One, they (like Florida) get today off. But the also don't have to play Florida until the championship game. South Carolina has to play Georgia (who has everything to play for), and even if they win, they have to beat Florida twice to make it to the championship.

Vandy gets the winner of Alabama-Arkansas (both will be NCAA tourney teams, but Vandy should be a big favorite), and they have to win 1 out of a possible 2 games to reach the finals.

Arkansas eliminated Alabama, and Georgia eliminated SC today. Georgia has to beat Florida at least once to qualify for the NCAA tourney.
