SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—After violence marred a weekend preseason game against the archrival Oakland Raiders (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/oak/), the San Francisco 49ers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/sfo/) on Monday moved to strengthen security at home games, including banning tailgating after kickoff and warning fans that rowdy behavior won’t be tolerated.

In addition, 49ers CEO Jed York said he will recommend that the NFL call off the annual preseason battle between the Niners and Raiders indefinitely.

I heard someone's statement last night from SF, stating this was a family environment blah blah blah. Seriously? Since when?

California takes their sports seriously. It's sad when a few aholes ruin things for everyone.

I haven't read anything on the subject, just heard some things hear and there about it. Does anyone even know if the shooting was directly football related or if it was just someone that happened to be around the stadium?

One of the victims had a "F*** the Niners" shirt on. The shootings occurred in the stadium parking lots (there were 2 incidents). Plus there was violence in the stands during the game. So I would say that the shootings and violence were football related.

I know last time I went to the Niners Titans game, what 2 years ago, it was a very hostile enviroment. I know I probably was about to get jumped on the concourse before the game just for wearing a Titans jersey. Luckily security was walking by at the time.
I told my brother in law that the SF fanbase has surpassed the Raiders for being the crappiest fans.

I had exactly the opposite experience, just for the record. (In fairness to all the cool 9er fans.) :)

I can't remember who it was but a female TOMB member went to a faiders game in Titans gear, sat about 5 rows from the field. Faider fans bought her beers :D
