Sports talk radio host George Plaster has confirmed to The Tennessean that he has left WGFX-FM 104.5 The Zone.
Plaster said he decided on Friday not to remain at the Citadel-owned sports talk show station where he has worked for the past eight years after it was sold to Cumulus earlier in the week.
“It’s the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make in radio,” Plaster said. “It was very emotional for me because of the people that I’ve worked with. The people at 104.5 The Zone are as professional as any radio station that I have ever dealt with. These are friends and we’ve had unbelievable success at this station.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I posted a few months ago that Citadel bought 104.5, I was worried something bad would happen. It looks like George didn't want to work for the same people that sued him 8 years ago.
Plaster is a special person to me because I moved to Nashville back in the summer of 1995. Listening to him talk about the Braves back then really made me feel at home here. And when the Braves won the World Series that fall, I went to the celebration he organized on the General Jackson.
He is a Braves, Titans, and Vandy fan just like me. I will miss him while he is gone, and I hope he finds his way back to radio at some point.
