I won’t make a prediction about how many games we’re going to win, but I will say this: We will definitely make the playoffs this season.

Believe it or not we weren’t far off last year. Almost every game we could have won, we were one play or one player short. Except for Tennessee on Thanksgiving, they just came out and beat us to sleep. They manhandled us, but nobody else did.

- Kevin Smith, Lions starting RB (http://playerpress.com/articles/we-ll-be-in-the-playoffs)

I am glad he clarified that for us. I was beginning to think it was a fluke that we beat them last year.

Well, if he didn't think that the Lions could make the playoffs, you'd have to wonder. Would any team want a player who didn't have the confidence to say that they expect to make the playoffs? Of course not.

Everyone will start at 0-0 in September. There's no reason for them to carry around last year's stigma forever. They would never make the playoffs if they were content to strive for mediocrity or sub-mediocrity.

I agree about confidence in your team. But guarantees like this rarely work out in anyone's favor.

I think they are going to be a tons better, but its a whole lot of early to be calling playoffs

I agree but you know the media won't let it go. If they lose their first game, they won't be 0-1, they'll be 0-17. The Lions will be 0-whatever until they win. The playoffs this season are a reach but stranger things have happened.

Im starting to believe that the lions and raiders are just the comic relief of the league. Sort of like an r2d2 and c-3po from star wars but, without the occasional heroic moment.

You may be on to something here. Maybe Al Davis struck up a deal with the Dark Side.

Seriously though, I would rather have a team of players that believe they can win every game. Those are the people that will fight for those wins.

You're correct. I think that is wrong. The team has a new head coach, new coordinators, and of course new players. Maybe they'll win opening day and shut up all that nonsense.

He looses nothing by making a guarantee. Nobody expects them to make it anyway. If he DOES, then he has that team, fanbase and ownership, heart and soul. If he doesn't .. well, they've been down that road before haven't they?

I think Miami's turnaround last year is reason enough to give a lot of teams hope. Nothing wrong with being positive. I mean it can't be any worse than last year. I for one will be rooting for Schwartz to succeed.

Smith (Detroit's RB) was quoted yesterday at NFLN Total Access. He says that he doesn't know how many games they're going to win, but that they will be on playoffs.

To be a 0-16 team....that sounds like too much dellusional, no?
