Dropsy drew is coming in for a visit.

Hopefully the team learned its lesson with McCareins last year and just says no!
The Rams are a team that is dreadfully thin at WR and they don't want him, so neither do I!

I don't think we need him, but he caught a heck of a lot more balls than he dropped.

More proof that Hawkins just isn't picking up the offense yet.
I'd say I wouldn't mind having him as a 4th receiver, but I know that if he is signed that he'll somehow move up to 3rd on the depth chart and either Britt or Washington wont be playing as much.

Sigh, I suppose we could just be updating our files but I don't think so. We knew Drew and he was just here last camp with the Rams and we saw him play. If we sign "Dropsie Drew" he won't be the 4th WR. That position goes to someone who can contribute on ST and Drew does not. I see it as an insurance signing and sadly yes I do think it speaks to a lack of faith in Hawk and also a realization that Britt won't be ready to start come Day 1. Which doesn't really shock me although I do hope he can work his way into the rotation at least by midseason.

6-6 218, fast, was never a good fit with the Jags and Del Rio, played hard last season, just turned 26 last month, dirt cheap. Dinger had great success with another QB turned WR. I know y'all are going to laugh, but seriously, he had a real solid season, and the Jags really depended on him.

:thumbsup Welcome back, Drew. Y E S ! I want Drew to return. I honestly do not care what you nay sayers say. He was not "dropsy" and has been the second best receiver we had since the Titans/Oilers moved to Tennessee(if you consider Mason the best). And while he is not apparently a "forum" favorite, he most definitely was and still is a Titan fan favorite especially in Nashville. I also have doubts Renfeldt will bring him back, but, if he is healthy and over his broken foot, I will welcome him back with open arms. Gage and Washington and Britt should not be afraid of some "healthy" competition. It's time for Williams and Davis to be gone anyway.

I loved Drew Bennett as much as the next guy ( I still have the 7+83=6 posters from when he and Volek were lighting it up) but when I think of Drew I always think of the playoff game against the Patriots when on 4th and long McNair threw it right to him with him just standing there and he dropped it (and this was after him making 2 clutch sideline catches). He show's flashes of brilliance, but one thing the Titans DON'T need is another receiver who is inconsistent and drops the big passes. We have a bunch of those already.

yes he was dropsy at the end of his career here.
go and check the stats.. he had one of the worst ratings among wr's that last year.

This team needs to look ahead and not back at this position. They already have enough marginal receivers. This guy wasn't wanted by the Rams. The RAMS! He was the best of a cap-depleted group when he was here, nothing more.

You did, I can back you up on that.
And what worries me most is that this seems to signify that the coaching staff doesn't feel we've addressed the need enough so far. Well, if we needed more than in coming rookies, why didn't we make a more serious play for one of the free-agent of for-trade WRs?
Oh well, I'm not gonna go negative on Reinfeldt again right now - I'm still too after-glowey from a draft I really, really liked. But I feel re-signing Drew, even for base Vet. minimum pay, I would view as a negative - I think we will be worse off with Drew than not having Drew
Edit - And thanks for the reminder of that thread, TGB - in that very thread, on this board, I called a "Book It" for us signing Bennett.

OK, Drew had a crappy year in 2008. I'm guessing that if the coaching staff sees that he's much improved over last year and can help this team, then signs him at the vet minimum as a replacement for Chris Davis or Paul Williams.

I am not sure either one had really great starts. Bennett only had a single thousand plus yard season (back in the Volek year), and McCariens never had one. They were good for 700 yards are so in their better seasons, which isn't terrible, but not that great either.
I really hope we don't get Drew back. This team has enough vet depth with Gage and Nate. The Titans need to get their youth on the field one way or another.

Only to run 2 receiver sets though. Hawkins still appears to be struggling and Britt is an unknown at this point. I like the idea of bringing in a vet as insurance to allow those two guys to develop a bit more but not to take playing time away from either of them should they develop to the point where they are ready to contribute. Of the options out there right now, Drew and Marvin Harrison are the most attractive I guess.

I guess I can never get over blamining Drew for the playoff loss to New England. If it had not been for Drew, the team would have never been in the position for him to miss that pass. That was a TEAM LOSS and Steve McNair had just as much responsibility for that loss.
I don't see how being the best receiver on our team in 2006 for Vince Young's first "rookie of the year" season, can be called bad and that his stats could be bad. Frankly, guys, you can only be as good as the QB. And we all know where Vince stands now.
At least the local media and fans are excited about the possibility of Drew returning to our team.

What frustrates me about this whole scenario more than anything is that Hawkins still can't run the correct routes and pick up our blocking scheme. I really hoped he would spend at least part of his offseason focusing on the playbook and working on fundamentals. Oh well, hopefully he will show a lot of progress in upcoming OTA's and camp.

I blame Steve a lot more than Drew for that loss. If it hadn't been for his intentional grounding, we never would have needed a desperate pass on 4th down. Overall, it was still a team loss (much like the Ravens game this past year).
There was one guy on the TOMB that never could get over blaming Dyson for the Super Bowl loss and Drew for the Patriots loss. :crazy

big difference...we were better than baltimore this year....we were not necessarily better than new england especially AT new england....steve was leading the game winning drive until that phantom holding call that ultimately cost us the game...
We were in as good a shape as you could be in...on the road, down 3, Mac 9 with the ball...i will always blame drew for that because that ball hit him RIGHT in the face....his hands were right there, NOBODY around him all he has to do is just catch the damn thing...He dropped the ball costing us a shot at a super bowl and ultimately Steve a place in history for a "drive" of his own...
4 people in NFL history have cost us shots at the super bowl title

2. John Simon

I agree 100%! What few realize is that he and Volek went on their tear against Indy, Oakland, and Kansas City who all had HORRIBLE secondaries that year. Drew caught 80 passes for 1247 yards and 11 TDs that season. 28 of the receptions, 517 of the yards, and 8 of the TDs came during that stretch. Without those three games, Drew would have had 52 receptions for 730 yards and 3 TDs which would be consistent with his numbers the following two years in Tennessee. Those numbers were compiled as a #1 WR folks. We already have guys on the roster that can put up those kinds of numbers.
The streak a few years back was a fluke that inflated the season stats of two less-than-stellar players. One is a career backup at QB who is now the Chargers backup and the other couldn't cut it in St. Louis as a WR. Do we really need a guy who couldn't cut it in St. Louis?

I've been a fan of Drew Bennett from his first year here and I hope that we sign him. He was drafted as a seldom used 3rd string UCLA QB and I wondered why they they even drafted him. Drew worked hard on ST, made the team and became a fair receiver. He worked harder and somehow became a better (not great) receiver. Anyway, that's why I hope that the coaches decide that Drew can help this team and sign him.

his last year here though, he was scared to catch the ball, afraid to get hit, always more worried about where the defender was than where the ball was. that was unacceptable to me. I want to win, and I only want you on my field if you are giving it up to catch that ball and get the first down.
With that said, a veteran league minimum and third string would be ok with me. the Titans are not going to pay big money to any of the free agents WR's. It is not our blue print as an organization at all.
I will also admit, He is a cutie and a sweetie!

Update....
Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said Tuesday he was “pleased” with the results of receiver Drew Bennett’s physical, but the team hadn’t decided whether to sign him.
Quantcast
Bennett, a Titan from 2001-06, spent the last two seasons in St. Louis. He visited Baptist Sports Park on Monday.
“We just had Drew in for a physical and we do that periodically with players that are available and are out there. You just want to bring them in and get him checked out in case there is some interest down the line,’’ Fisher said after Tuesday’s minicamp practice.
“We have not made a commitment to him, nor has he made a commitment to us. We just brought him in to see his status. We are in the preliminary stages. ... Drew is healthy now and just looking for an opportunity to come in and finish his career.’’
Bennett was released by the Rams after two injury-filled seasons. As a Titan he had 273 catches for 4,033 yards.
Quarterback Kerry Collins, who spent one year with Bennett, said his old teammate would have no trouble adjusting if the Titans re-signed him.
“He’d pick up quick. He is a sharp guy, a veteran guy,’’ Collins said. “He has been in the offense before, so he’ll pick it up real quick. I don’t think that would be a concern for anybody.’’

I still think that we don't have a need to dress Bennett in two-tone-blue again. I think that bewteen Gage and Washington, plus a good rookie addition or couple of additions (read: Britt and Cook, --switched to a WR, he is physyicaly alike, as Bowe of KC-- or Hawkins), our recieving corps would be more than fine.

Drew was the victim of cost cutting in St Louis which cut several players including Troy Holt that so many wanted to sign. I do not believe Drew was ever the starter in 2007. He had a chance in 2008 but ihe injured his foot in the first regular season game. He played very well in the preseason game against us last year and would have been a major contributor last season if not for the injury.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Drew's 2006 production and fear. He LED all Titan receivers in 2006 in receptions and yardage. And, quite frankly, I would be afraid of where Vince might be sending his wild balls either into the hands of the opponents and close enough to the grounds to graze the grass.
