I came across this yesterday, and can predict some of the responses here, but I thought it was interesting.


But he said if there was one NFL player he could bring here, it would be quarterback Vince Young, whom he coached last year with the Tennessee Titans.

"The offensive style of the CFL fits him, the NFL doesn't," Andrus said.


I don't know much about CFL and had to look it up. In terms of offensive style, it seems like they pass more and also go for the 'big play.' Your interpretations?

Having fun making fun of VY. Its all good for now with the new board and all, but I really would like to see Vince do well with us.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but from what I could dredge up on CFL, running is not something they do much. I suppose with a lot of passing, the running lanes would open up... Of course, he'd probably be a giant in the CFL (size-wise), but Andrus said 'style' specifically. hmmm...

from what i have heard it is WAY longer and WAY wider.

i dont know if that would make it easier for a young qb with little accuracy and great running ability or harder. not to knock on vy cause i hope he turns out to be our next mcnair or moon.

Me too.It's a slow news season and aside from the video of Vince and Albert (pre Redskins) goofing around at Lendale's B'day, there isn't a whole lot to report on.

JC, I'd love for VY to come in and be the super QB we all wanted him to be, but until something changes, I can only look at him as a bust right now.

bootleg?? run? He's a quarterback!

Everyone knows that the only time you run is with 2 tight-ends, and you hand it to the halfback who runs up the middle!

I mean, a play where the quarterback actually keeps it and runs it *on purpose*?! Are you mad!! You have got to be smoking something. I'm pretty sure that's illegal.

As I said, I'm pretty sure it says in the football rulebook that you must only run by handing off to a designated running back who must run the ball up the middle, and only with the QB starting under center in a 2-TE formation.

Letting the quarterback actually just run it? That's gotta be some CFL wierdness.

PS - JCBRAVE - I also think VY could be decent on the right team. But this team, coached by Fisher, is literally THE WORST TEAM in the entire NFL for a quarterback like VY. Bar none. No contest, hands down, end of story, period.

It is my opinion, of course. I lay on the superlatives to emphasize my conviction, but it is still just my opinion.

And mostly to the point, I did not state that I believed my opinion to the central topic at hand was that solid - merely a subset.

Plenty of meat on the bone of whether Vince can play, and whether Bart Andrus's wish is wise or unwise. But I cannot fathom a team less suited to Vince Young than the Titans with Jeff fisher at the helm.

Vince Young could do better in the CFL simply because the talent level is lower than the NFL. His coverage-reading skills would not be as apt to hurt him there as they do in the NFL.

This was more or less the response I was expecting. You could argue Andrus was being diplomatic, but he was speaking specifically about the style. I don't fully understand that - not knowing much about CFL doesn't help.
