Tony Kornheiser stepped down Monday after three seasons as a commentator on ESPN's "Monday Night Football," where he will be replaced by former Raiders and Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden.
Kornheiser cited the grind of the travel schedule, which from the start has been his biggest complaint about the job. He has an intense fear of flying and tried to avoid doing so whenever possible.
Only six of ESPN's regular-season games in 2009 are scheduled for the Eastern Time Zone (Kornheiser lives in Washington, D.C.), and there are games in Oakland, San Diego, Denver and San Francisco.

I'm so glad Tony K is gone but Gruden seems an odd choice to replace him.

Maybe they're counting on his many facial expressions for comedy?

I hope they still have the what 7 second delay just in case he drops an F bomb or something similar, lol.

I am having a hard time picturing Gruden in this role. I won't complain just yet though as I was one of those that couldn't wait for Kornheiser to go.

I have no idea what Gruden will be like - I mean, I've never heard him speak - but I too am glad to see the back of Kornheiser. He was very irritating.

Gruden was pretty good in front of the camera on the NFL Network Draft coverage.

No matter what they do, IMO, they will never top Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell, and Don Merideth!:toast

I wish they would just stick with 2 people in the booth. The 3rd wheel is just clunky. A perfect booth, for me, would be Al Michaels and Stuart Scott. I think they would make a great mix of old knowledge new hipness with some smart comedy. I'd watch that every night.

You are a bit more opinionated and prone to slapping people around here than at the old place.

Not as long as Joe Theisman darkens the broadcast booth.

I thought Deirdork "SUPERFLUOUS " fell out of his chair in the booth and landed on his leg and broke it . . . .
( I know .. I'm going to hell . . . . Superfluous refers to an entire season where every other word out of Deirdorks mouth was superfluous.. just redongcufluous. . . :) )
