FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP)—New Orleans is a Super Bowl city again.
NFL owners voted Tuesday to play the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans, the first time the championship game will be played there since Hurricane Katrina shredded parts of the Louisiana Superdome. The hurricane caused 1,600 deaths and devastated the Gulf Coast four years ago.

Good for New Orleans! After all that happened, I think it would be a nice kick start that the city could use.

The NFL owed them one after taking away revenue last year, and taking a PR hit for it.

New Orleans getting this SB will have major effects on scheduling if Goodell also gets what he wants with extending the NFL season by 1 or 2 games.
Here is an interesting read on what I am talking about:

The expanded schedule isn't going to work, no matter how they want to bend it.

It could work, but it requires a lot of effort from the players, the coaches, the owners, and the TV networks. It just isn't something that Goodell can wish for and it suddenly comes true.
Does anyone remember how easy or hard it was to go from 6 preseason games and 14 regular season games to what it is now? It happened between the 1976 and 1977 seasons.

Will they have a new stadium by then ? If not, the Superdome just plain sucks as a venue. Talk about anachronistic......

I'm happy for the Big Easy. Let's hope Mother Nature never strikes her another blow like that.
That said, I believe everyone is looking at this the wrong way. Can you imagine as a tourist doing the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras on the same trip? Wow!

In many cases, the Super Bowl is about the location, not the stadium. Miami, New Orleans, San Diego, and LA have average to below average stadiums. But they are a great place to stay warm and party in February.
