There were no fireworks or marching bands that day in 1959 when two Texas businessmen decided to take on the National Football League.
K.S. "Bud'' Adams was driving Lamar Hunt back to Houston's Hobby Airport when the idea came up.
Adams and Hunt had discovered they had something in common. Both had tried to buy the NFL Chicago Cardinals. Both were turned down.

That was a great article. I only had an issue with one paragraph:
In the ensuing months, Adams and Bredesen developed a strong relationship, and Bredesen teamed with other city leaders in pushing for approval of a stadium referendum. Voters overwhelmingly approved the funding, and the Oilers moved to Tennessee in 1997.
The stadium referendum was actaully put in place by critics of the deal to build a stadium with tax dollars, water company dollars, and the like. Bredesen and other city leaders had nothing to do with it.
Based on the above, when discussing Nashville history all dates should be either BB or AB -- that is, Before Bud and After Bud.:doh

No where in the article did it say Bredersen "put the referendum in place". While the "critics" did sign enough petitions to put the stadium referendum on the ballot, Bredersen and the "NFL YES" campaign pushed for APPROVAL and won the referendum by an overwhelming majority.

I see your interpretation. That's probably what Biddle was trying to convey, but I think it could of been worded differently. I would have written, "Bredesen and city leaders teamed up against a ballot that would have rejected the funding for the stadium."

I'm carbon dating myself, but I watched Billy Cannon, George Blanda, Charlie Tollar, et al play in Houston. The Oilers hosted games at Jeppeson Stadium, a rickety pile of crap on the University of Houston campus. The players would stroll out of the locker room, across the running track and on to the field. I was a wee L13, when one game I actually ran into George Blanda, as he was crossing the track.....true story. I get the jibe of the article, but as an outsider, let me say this. Bud had no more to do with shaping your city, than his desire for a new stadium in Houston. You have an absolutely charming, entertaining and dare I say, cosmopolitan town, that just happens to have an NFL team, imho.....

That gave me goosebumps and thank you :)
I love this city and the people who make it what it is. It's an adventure waiting to be experienced and only the best kind.
