Its not who you think. Im pretty sure no one can beat this one although "statistical turnaround" is open to interpretation depending on which stats you deem important.

I think TD to INT ration is just about the most important stat for a QB IMO.

If you throw 16 INTS that generally bad. But not if you threw 30TDs. Thats a great year. But if you only threw 13, you suck. Its all a sliding scale.

Anyhow, I was reading and article about Denvers QB competition between Orton and Simms and at the bottom they went into other Denver QB training camp battles through the years. I see Steve DeBergs name. I remember that guy being a decent vet QB who had a few pretty good statistical seasons.

Anyhow, check this out:

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DebeSt00.htm

Now look at seasons in 1989 and 1990 for the Kansas City Chiefs

They guy went from 11TDs and 16ints in 1989 to

23 tds and 4 ints in 1990.

His int percentage was 0.9 which has to be near some sort of a record. It even bests Bradys in '07 though Brady threw over twice as many TDs.

The next year Deberg came back down to Earth with 17tds and 14ints.

I'm going to do a little more research to see exactly what was it that lead to him only throwing 4 picks in 16 games that year. The Chiefs were good both of those years too (11-5).

EDIT* WOW! Deberg threw 3 of those ints in ONE GAME agfainst INDY http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199010070clt.htm!

So in 15 other games, over 400 attempts he threw 1 int.

This is cleay your classic off season topic. Im digging deep into the stats of Steve DeBerg!

I thought this was going to be about length vs. width ????

You just made my day! I'll never forget watching him play with a cast on his finger (pins and plates). Stephon Paige was his go to guy and they were fun to watch.

Yeah and they had Okoye and Word. And Derrick Thomas had 20 sacks.

And their other linebacker Snow was pretty good.

For those long enough in the tooth ... Oilers -vrs- KC 1990 While Moon was carving up the chiefs for 527 yards ( he should have stayed in and got the record !!! ) DeBerg broke his pinkie. They pulled it into a semblance of a straight didget, taped it to the other finger and on he played. Moon also hurt a finger in that game, his was dislocated and he came back in. Guttiest play by two warriors in the same game I've seen.

Found this gem on DeBerg.

It's a few pages long, so remember to turn the page :)

I remember Deberg with that season. It was pretty darn amazing. What I remember about Deberg is that was the absolute best at play action of anyone I have ever seen. He was a master at it. I saw him fake out the cameraman so many times. Esiason was great too, as is Manning, but even they couldn't touch Deberg.

The only season I remember anyone having a lower INT pct. was Joe Ferguson of the Bills back in '76 although he barely qualified with the minimum attempts. Still his INT pct was only 0.7! He threw one pick in 151 attempts!
