one of my favorite events of the year...root for a Phil and Tiger sunday pairing at Bethpage, with those crowds it would be awesome....by the way Bethpage has THREE par 4's over 500 yards

I would be pretty surprised to see Phil or Tiger win. But at least we will know by Saturday night whether Tiger will win it or not. ;)

I am just hoping Snedeker can put two good rounds together to make the cut. He finished in the top 10 last year, but that was one of the last times he played well that season.

Tiger sniped one left off the first tee today but saved par...i dont know why seeing Tiger win would be a big surprise...he did win one-legged last year...but you are right we will know by saturday. But honestly we may know by friday night

Let me state for the record that I am an avid golfer. Not a good one mind you, but pretty freakin' rabid. Having said that, the only thing more boring than watching televised golf (see televised fishing) is watching a RAIN DELAY broadcast. Chris Berman is rapidly becoming the master of the inane...

I really enjoy watching televised golf, within limits. It almost only watch majors, and I almost only watch Saturdays and Sundays. By then, you can concentrate on the rounds of a handful of golfers and see the event unfold.

I keep up with the leaderboards on the first two days, but that's about it. There are just too many golfers to watch then, which makes it inconsistent.

There might not be any more golf today. :( I guess New York is getting all that rain that we have had lately in Tennessee.

I am doing round 2 and the final round. I am praying I can get something special like last year, but I doubt anything will match the drama...I still laugh at myself that I asked for father's day the ability to work and cover the final round knowing it would be the only way I could watch it in peace....:doh

I have a feeling it's gonna be a screwy tourney due to the rain, with golfers forced into 36 hole days either tomorrow or Sunday. Weather forecast isn't good for the next few days...

Toronto, since round 2 is partly today and likely partly tomorrow, how much do you get to cover? Do you get to see the rest of round 1 today? Do you get to see all of round 3 as well?

I hope you having fun. I have never been to a professional golf tournament, much less a major. I would think it would be pretty awesome (when it's not raining). ;)

Brandt Snedeker had a pretty good opening round at the US Open, finishing one over par.

Mike Weir is the leader after one round with a 6 under. David Duval of all people is tied for third at 3 under. Phil is at modest 1 under par, while Tiger is 4 over. Tiger isn't out of contention, but he has some work to do.

Notice I couldn't respond yesterday lol. My day started at 10AM, when ESPN came on air, and my day ended when they blew the horn at 8:24PM. It was exhausting, to say the least. To give you an idea how intensive it gets, a normal baseball game will get maybe 80, 90 different clips, meaning we clip all the outs, hits, errors, hinjinx, scenery, fan shots etc.

Yesterday, my round 1 had 268 clips, and round 2 (yesterday, not today) got 189 clips. It took me 2 hours just to clean it all up and archive it.

Needless to say, we had very significant coverage because of Weir and even Nick Taylor, the amateur who sits at 2 under after 2 rounds. Our Pacific network wanted a seperate hilite pack just of him, as ESPN managed to show enough to give me the goods....

Give you an idea how I organized it, then how we produced it?

For our early shows, we did a Weir highlight pack that ran about 90 seconds. Then we ran a pack of the rest of round 1; i started with Tiger's Day, then Phil's day, then a few snippets of the rest of the field. (I threw in Duval, Mediate and shot of the day)

For late shows, we ran a full 3 and a half minutes, using the same format, but all in one pack.

For the second round, I kept it more simple, starting with Weir, the first round leader, then Nick Taylor, then Phil, Barnes and Glover. I ended the pack on that hilarious moment where some idiot fan screams "Alexander Hamilton" when Todd Hamilton tees off at the Par 3 8th. The ESPN guys say it's time for some fans to go home....I then show the horns blasting ending a long day.

I slept like a baby last nite, 13 hours of golf is a lot, even for a nut like me. I am doing Sunday's golf and if it stretches to Monday, I am being switched off Wimbledon to bring it home. Glad I asked my wife to let me work this as my 'father's day gift', knowing it was the only way I'd get to watch it uninterrupted.

Needless to say, I will be rooting for Weir to stay near or on top.

Needless to say, the guys that got a late tee time in Round 1 were given a serious advantage over others...Luck of the draw....

Snedeker finished the 2nd round 5 over, so he is 6 over for the tournament. He likely will miss the cut by two strokes. :sad

Rain wreaking havoc - tourney delayed until at least 12:00 noon...and Monday finish now a certainty. :sad

I find it very amusing that Frank Wycheck thinks Tiger is not out of contention, even though he is 7 strokes back with 11 holes to play. :crazy

Anyone who thinks Tiger has any chance just hasn't followed his career at all. He does not come back to win majors. Period.

I say there is a 99% chance that the winner will be Barnes or Glover. Both are at -7 now, 5 strokes ahead of their competiton. It takes a whole lot for two guys to collapse. I could see one of them fall out past 2nd place, but that's it.

The impossible almost happened. Barnes was 6 over today and Glover was 3 over, which made the final a heck of a lot closer than it probably should have been. Phil and Duval both had a share of the lead with two holes to play, but they both missed short putts on 17, while Glover birdied 16.

Phil now has the distinction of having the most runner-up finishes in the US Open in golf history (5). Wow, I really do feel for him.

I'm calling out NBC for some of the most pathetic coverage of the Open I have ever seen.

1) Earth to NBC. Want to promote the future of the sport? How about stopping your 2 hour blowjobs of Tiger then Phil? I actually was laughing while putting together the final round - when Tiger flew the green at 15 ending any shot he had, they still showed every move, manneurism made by him. Problem was that it took away from some of the other compelling theatre. Then when Woods parred 18, what did they do? Switch to a new BJ, but with Phil. The rest of the field was a complete afterthought. Hell, NBC practically had to remind themselves that Glover was going to win.

I understand what pays the bills, hell, I have marching orders in any tournament that either of those guys play to make sure my highlight packs start with them. But NBC's complete utter cold shoulder to essentially 58 other golfers this weekend was pathetic. The PGA Tour better pray Phil and Tiger don't decide to retire young, because they have done NOTHING to set themselves up for the next generations of players.

2) I loved the Phil storyline, but man was I pulling for Duval once Weir did his annual weekend pullback. That would have been an incredible story and I screamed in agony when his par putt did a full 360 and rimmed out at 17.

3) Why on earth did NBC not bother to mention what all golf reporters were discussing, which was the USGA's decision to make 18 a short benign hole by pushing the tees up 57 yards? Did you notice Glover played a 6 iron off the tee at 18? Kinda hard to have a compelling finish when they make 18 a walk in the park. Maybe next time NBC's producer will sit down Hicks, Costas and Miller and actually make them interrupt their Phil/Tiger menage a trois and be actual golf tv journalists. Hell knows Costas and Miller have the ability to skewer subjects when they want to, I'm stunned they didn't touch on this.

All that aside, I love Bethpage and wish the rain hadn't made the course play that easy the first two days - you would have seen a lot of grown men cry, it's that tough a course.
