With the sudden tragedy of #9, it has stirred up a lot of emotions from me. I can only imagine what the team is feeling right now. The upcoming football season, whether we go 16-2, 8-8, or 3-15, will be a historic one, and likely the end of another era with the Tennessee Titans.
Keith Bulluck, Jeff Fisher, Mike Heimerdinger, Jevon Kearse, Vince Young, and many others on the Titans had very close personal ties with #9, and with the recent events, the Titans are likely to leave it all on the field.
It's Keith Bulluck's last year on his contract, and if history repeats itself, he may be looking for another home come 2010. Keith appreciates money, but he bleeds two toned blue. If he realizes what the future might bring, you can expect Keith to play harder than he normally plays.
Jeff Fisher is not getting any younger, and the Titans are peaking. After 15 or so years in the league, and no championship, Fisher is probably getting restless and may not be around through another rebuilding stage. You can probably expect a now or never attitude from him.
Other factors include other key players on the last year of their contracts, including Lendale White, who looks to be in great shape. He is in competition with Chris Johnson who is coming off of a rookie pro-bowl season. Also, players such as Michael Griffin and Cortland Finnegan are really coming into their prime.
Here's to 2009.
