At the US Open, Brandt Snedeker failed to make the cut for the 9th time in 12 tournaments this year. He had made barely over $100,000 for the year.
Since then, he finished 47th in the Traveler's Championship (good to just make the cut), 5th in the AT&T National ($228,000), and he just finished in a tie for 2nd in this weekend's John Deer Classic ($321,067). That 5th place finish a week ago qualified Brandt for the British Open. :thumbsup
He is playing his best golf right now, and I am pretty sure this will be his first trip to the British Open. I am excited that he has finally gotten his game back.

I'm glad Snedeker has been playing better, but I'm not sure the British Open is what he needs right now. The weather is wildly unpredictable, and the courses are very unforgiving. Frankly, I think he should be playing the U.S. Bank Championship this week in Milwaukee. A little confidence builder would be much better than the possibility of taking a beating from Mother Nature.

While that is probably true. You just don't pass up a chance to play in The Open.

I'm glad he has it turned around and qualifying for the Open would be hard to turn down.

He has barely made over 100 grand this year.
Must suck to be him...

:huh
He has made over $600,000 now.
My point about the $100,000, is while that is a lot of money to you and me, that isn't enough to stay on the PGA tour. If you don't make enough money, you have a real good chance to be sent back down to the minors (like the Nationwide tour).

I forgot to update this, but after missing the cut on the British Open, he finished in a tie for 5th at the Canadian Open last week. Three top-5 finishes in 4 weeks is pretty impressive. :thumbsup
That added another $186,000 to his winnings, and he is up to $861,773 this year. He is 69th in the FedEx standings, which puts him comfortably in the Fedex Cup for at least two rounds.
He is playing this weekend at the Buick Open.

It's amazing what one hole can do. The cut at the Buick Open is likely to be 3 under, and Snedeker was right there going into 18. Unfortunately, he double-bogeyed it, so he will definitely miss the cut. :(

Snedeker did well at the Wyndham tournament this weekend, finishing two strokes back in a tie for 5th place. This was his 4th top 5 finish this season, which is definitely encouraging after the terrible start this year. He also now has over $1 million in winnings this year.
Now it is time for the FedEx Championship. Snedeker moved up to #64 in the FedEx point standings.
Here is how it works. The top 125 players in FedEx points play in the first tournament. After that, the points are recalculated, and the top 100 play in the next tourney. The third tourney only takes the top 70, and then the final tourney takes the top 30.
Points in these tourneys are quintulped (x5), so even the players at the bottom have a chance to advance. Snedeker should safely be in the first two tourneys, but he likely has to do something to make the field of 70.

Snedeker was a much different golfer on Saturday and today than he was the first two rounds. He started out 72-75, and he was right on the cut line at 5 over.
But he made the most of his opportunity. Yesterday, he shot a bogey-free 67 to move way up the leaderboard. Today he has one bogey, but he had six birdies to shoot a 66. :thumbsup
So in two days, he went from 75 to a tie for 14th (at this time). CBS is predicting that he will move from #64 to #47 in the FedEx standings.
Great job, Brandt!

Excuse me, but is this guy from Nashville ? WTF ? The PGA is all about El Tigre !

Two of the playoff tournaments are complete, and Snedeker sits in 42nd place up two spots). He finished in 32nd place in the Deutsch Bank Championship, ensuring a spot in this week's BMW Championship. The top 70 left play this week, with the top 30 moving on to the final leg of the Fedex Cup.
Brandt played ok this past weekend, though he ended with a bang by hitting his 2nd shot on the par 5 eighteen within 2 feet of the cup. He made the eagle, which he really needed.
He will have to play well this week to finish in the top 30. He may need a top 10 finish to do it. His problems have been starting too slow and barely making the cut. He has played great on Sundays, but he needs to improve on those other days.
Steve Stricker is leading the FedEx standings, with Tiger still in 2nd place.

I had to wiki it myself.
Brandt Snedeker (born December 8, 1980) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour.
Snedeker was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended Montgomery Bell Academy and then Vanderbilt University, where he was a member of the Chi Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order. He won the U.S. Amateur Public Links in 2003 before turning professional. Snedeker currently works with Todd Anderson of the Sea Island Golf Club.
So the answer to your question appears to be yes, he's from Nashville :P

Yeah Mike, he needs a strong start and then finish the way he has been playing. It is going to be hard to get into the top 30, but he can do it if he brings his "A" game every round.

Snedeker ended his 3rd round with 4 straight birdies, and he is currently in 3rd place all alone at 9 under. :thumbsup
If he can keep it up, he will make the final tournament in the FedEx Cup.
Tiger is winning at 15 under, and Marc Leishman is at 10 under. They are both still playing.
Update: Leishman finished at 9 under, so Snedeker is tied for 2nd. Tiger has a huge lead now, so it might be best if Snedeker is in the 2nd to last group rather than being paired with Tiger. I really don't know who it will be.

Nice video interview with Brandt at the end of the round: http://www.pgatour.com/2009/tournaments/r028/09/12/contenders.ross/index.html
Also from the article:
Snedeker, the 2007 Rookie of the Year, has a renewed interest in the game after spending eight weeks on the shelf due to cracked rib in his right side. Good thing, too, since the Huck Finn look-a-like has now played 13 of the last 14 weeks and has four top-five finishes, including second at the John Deere Classic during that stretch.
Saturday's 66 earned Snedeker a share of second and a spot in the final group with Woods -- the first time the two have ever played together. He plans to embrace the opportunity on several fronts.
"I went from not having a job about six months ago to at least being safe for next year and hopefully have a good day tomorrow and am getting into THE TOUR Championship," said Snedeker, who is currently projected at No. 7 in the FedExCup after starting the week 42nd.
"This is what we do for a living. ... I've rediscovered how much I love the game, and been playing a lot, and it's fun."

He's definately got some game. Gonna be a challenge for him today. A lot of great players like Els, Garcia, Harrington, Weir etc. have all wilted under the circus that is playing with Tiger.
Snedeker would almost be better off walking to the first tee with blinders on, recognizing the tourney is already over and enjoying himself. I remember when Weir had his first pairing with Tiger, he shot an 80 at the PGA Championship. Yet when Weir learned to play his own game more, he was able to battle Tiger at the President's Cup and beat him heads up.

The big trick is for Brandt is that he has a lot to play for today. If he melts under the pressure, he doesn't get to play next week. He certainly doesn't have to win, and I would be shocked if Tiger doesn't win. But he needs to shoot at least 3 under, if not better to earn a spot.
Leishman is in the same boat. He was 67th when the tournament started, and he may have to stay in the top 3 to play next week.
I really do like this playoff format. This round today is going to be huge for a lot of golfers.

Snedeker just choked on 18. Putting for par ended up with triple bogey including missing a tap in. Damn, I feel bad for him.

I saw it. I was screaming at the TV when it lipped out.
I just so embarrassed for him. This is the 2nd time I can remember him in the final group of a major tournament (Masters 2 years ago was the other), and the 2nd time he choked badly.
He blew it. There is no excuse for it. He just couldn't handle the pressure, and he is going to have to adapt to it or he won't last long in the PGA.

You are right, he has to get it corrected. Can you believe how much money that cost him?

The money is something (he still earned about $136,000 for this tourney), but the worst part is all the guarentees for finishing in the top 30. He would have automatically qualified for every major next year. Now he has to earn it again.
