there is talk the nfl will at some time take away some of the preseason games and had them to the regular schedule.

while overall it seems like a good thing one wonders if it will be better for some vet players.
in reality most teams keep most of their vets out of one of the four games.
this may then mean in the future more vets will play in all the preseason games while playing an extra game during the season.

I don't think they should, if they want to cut the preseason down that's fine. However starting the season in late August isn't a good option, sitting in the blazing heat for 2 months isn't a good idea.
Start same time just go into mid-January? No thanks the Super Bowl at the End of February???? with OTA's in March.
No need to make the season year round more than it already is. Not to mention you have to reopen the CBA to do this. I'm sure this is all going to be post un-capped year followed by labor strife. (yep it's coming)

Those are basically my arguments as well. I would also add that it would likely make more games meaningless at the end of the season rather than less. Meaningless games in the middle of January is not good for attendance at stadiums.

While 4 preseason games does seem long, it is fairly consistent with other professional sports. Baseball has a little over a month long spring training. The NBA has a 3 week preseason. The NHL has a little over 2 week preseason.

I really have no desire for an 18 game schedule, and I am a season ticket holder.

The NHL's preseason is waaay to long. I shouldn't have to go to 3-4 preseason games, even if 1 is free.

Even the players hate it

yeah i am more for just cutting the preseason back to 3 games.
the big issue of course is money.
the teams make a lot of money from the preseason since the salary structure is different but they charge the same amount to the fans.
the vet players get a little over a 1,000 per week for preseaon plus some extras for expensives.
they dont start earning their regular salary until the regular season.

The only thing I am afraid of is that if they take away a preseason game (without adding it to the end of the season) they will surely jack up the price of the regular games to make up for it.

I would like to see the preseason shortened as well but fear that prices for the remaining games will skyrocket. (My tickets have increased over 50% since I first started buying them as is.) I don't know what the answer is, but I'm sure inflated ticket prices will be the result regardless.

I do not see a point in changing anything. I say just leave it how it is.

No matter what they do, they really need to come off of the charging full regular season prices on our preseason tickets. They don't pay the players like it's a real game, so they shouldn't charge the fans full price either.

I've taken the punch to the wallet many of preseasons with me having to work and nobody wants to pay full price for the preseason games, so I pretty much have to beg people to take them for free.

I'd like to see the preseason games being a option for season ticket holders to purchase or not. When they mail us our season ticket bill, they should have a box where we could mark we want to buy the preseason game or let them sell them to the public when they sale the single game tickets.

They wouldn't ever do it for the fear nobody would buy them and have empty seats everywhere, so they just stick it to us with making it part of our season tickets.

I'd pass on buying preseason everytime and give someone that can't get regular game tickets a chance to see the guys live.

I had always thought that the season is tough as it is. Some teams have a reasonable time to close strong and find the way to win the Super Bowl...

6 months are basiclly enough time to prepare for a new season.

They get 7 weeks if you go to the Super Bowl. Once OTA's start.

I wouldn't have a problem cutting the preseason down to 3 games and adding 1 game to the regular season as long as they charged a pretty cheap price for the preseason games. I don't think that scenario would make that much difference though so they might as well leave it how it is.

That's to be precise...yep.

Take one preseason game, add one regular season game against a team in the other conference, take away the bye week.

take away the bye week.

:ohmy

Most likely a bye week will be added. There is no reason at all to remove the existing bye week.

Given that the weather only gets worse in cities like Green Bay and Chicago and New York and Foxborough and Pittsburgh and Buffalo as January gives way to early February, Mullen points out that the championship games could be moved to a neutral site.

If that happened I would seriously reconsider whether or not I owned season tickets for the Titans.

One more screw the actual fan, commericial whore like move.

I can't imagine anything worse for season ticket holders than to move championship games to neutral fields. I don't see any way that it happens. I can't see the owners or players supporting it.

I hate the hole idea of playing conference championship games at neutral sites...

Leave the thing the way it is!

I hate this idea with a passion. We have guys who are shells of themselves after their playing days are done as it is. I'm not for adding an extra game because I don't want to see my favorite player struggle to walk because Roger Goodell decided it'd be good for the fans to have an extra game when he could give two ****s about his players.

I would like to see an extended season. High school and college football is 10 games or so, depending where you play. The NFL is longer obviously, being that its a pro league. 16 games!?! Who thought that number up? The NFL is twice the league so it should be twice the games. So the real question is; how much longer should the NFL season go? I wouldn't be opposed to them playing as many as 20 regular season games. The league should probably extend it by two games to begin, which puts us at 18. It means more football which equals more money, more value, and more publicity. The NFL seems to love being Americas number one pro league. So why not? Whats stopping them? Is it approvals or is it finding a lame study telling them what we all want. I'll tell you what most of us want; MORE GAMES!!!!! We all want to see the Titans win more times than anyone, so by extending the season we will get that. So to the NFL commissioner and company: DO IT!! Also the players will be compensated for their extra time, and were gonna need more bodies so we can last 20 games.

College is 12 games plus one possible bowl game. NFL is currently 16 games with 4 potential postseason games.

My argument is more games dilutes the sport, reduces attendance, and creates more injuries. It also weakens the playoffs, since players are potentially pretty exhausted by the time the Super Bowl rolls around. Careers also are likely to be shortened by the number of extra games.

I just think of all the meaningless games that will happen the last two weeks of the season in an 18 game schedule. Most spots will be known by then.

4 preseason games likely are too long. 18 regular seasons are too many as well. 17 games is good only if one game per team is on a neutral site (which I am not excited about either).

This is one of those ideas that sounds good on paper (more NFL!) but has the potential to have a lot of negative side effects.
