Default Jaguars blacked out for the season?

    http://jacksonville.com/sports/footb...g_of_blackouts

The Jaguars play the first of 10 home games this year Saturday night — two in the preseason and eight in the regular season — and the team has already announced all 10 will be blacked out on TV because of a lack of ticket sales.

This will be the first time in their 15-year history that they’ve blacked out all 10 games and the stadium might be only, about half-filled Saturday night. Crowd noise probably won’t be a problem for the Bucs.

    -------------------------------------------

I am skeptical of this announcement. How can the Jags say that they won't have any sellouts? They have two good home games in a row against the Colts and Dolphins later in the season. What if they get hot and start winning?

Sure, they don't have any games sold out now. They may actually have none. But I can't see a team announcing this unless it is just a marketing ploy to sell more tickets.
Go Titans! Go Braves! Go Preds! Go Dores!

I guess Florida can only handle two NFL teams.

They are like the grizzlies of the NFL...no matter how good or bad they do on the field, the attendance stays the same.

They sold out every game last year. Blackouts really aren't common there. (though they have happened, sometimes multiple times in a season)

Maybe they are just wanting to take advantage of the 70% off summer sale at www.tarpsplus.com (ends August 31st)

A huge drop in season ticket sales maybe? If so, a marketing ploy is a good idea.

That can backfire on them. Risky right now.

Maybe they should offer free ice cream!

Free ice cream and half priced tix might do the trick. Might as well take advantage of the revenue pie while there's still a share of it.

i think this is a spoof though it might be funny if true.

there are already a lot of tarped seats, so unless the nfl all of a sudden didnt allow the tarped seats any more i dont see this happening.
and they are not going to allow a team to decree this even before the season started.

Does anybody really think the blackout rule works? I think it just punishes the fans as opposed to getting them to buy tickets,,,imo

I think the NFL should get rid of it. It isn't something used by any other sport. But it probably is a good incentive to buy tickets.

Their owner through a fit about adding something like 8,000 seats a couple of years ago. That franchise is simply FUBAR.

They haven't been the same since 99; something must have happened to them that year.
