Go to the non-sports sites like yahoo, msnbc, etc, and if you see an NFL story mentioned on the front page, it's Peyton.
And no one is happier about that than Gregg Williams. Spygate was the big story because it involved the Patriots and Belichick. If it was a team like the Rams or the Lions it probably wouldn't have been as big.

I'm with TGB on this. This scandal is a joke of a scandal. Placing "bounties" on players for great hits goes on at all levels of football. I've seen players do this in Pop Warner football. The fact that the front office is involved in it does make it a bigger deal, but is it really any different than what has happened for as long as the sport has been around? As long as the hits were legal hits then more power to them in my opinion. When it comes to illegal hits I have a differing opinion. That's not what this scandal is about though. It's almost purely about legal hits.

Also, Spygate is a much bigger scandal and way worse for the effect it had on the league. With Spygate you had a team cheating to get an advantage. With this bounty scandal you have a lot of players who were playing the game within the rules and getting no special advantage from it.

If you are one that thinks this kind of thing isn't widespread and hasn't happened for decades then you're being a bit naive.

    (This isn't directed at anyone)

I still see this as just like the steroids scandal in baseball. Just because everyone was doing it doesn't make it right. That is what makes this so big.

Actually it circumvents the salary cap when money is involved. Which is definitely against league rules.

I never said it wasn't against league rules. It obviously is. I just said it didn't give them a competitive advantage on the field (remember I am talking about legal hits).

Circumventing the salary cap for $10k here and there is a pretty weak argument. There are so many loopholes in the way contracts can be written which makes it so the salary cap isn't a real number.

I guess 309 was right about this being a worse disaster.

    Somebody had to say it

Whether the crime was worse than Spygate or not, you had to think the penalties would be a lot worse than Spygate's since it involved so many people, plus player safety.

What is interesting to me is how do you suspend a GM 8 games? What does that even mean?
