Thumbs up Vandy going bowling for a third straight year

Vandy beat Kentucky today to get to 6 wins and be bowl eligible for a third straight season. Since they had never gone to a bowl for two straight years before last, this just keeps the historic streak going.

This game had a very rare play. Kentucky got an early TD, but their extra point was blocked and returned all the way by Vandy for 2 points. So instead of it being 7-0, it was 6-2. Considering it was 9-6 going into the fourth quarter instead of 7-7, it was a pretty big play.

James Franklin now has 10 SEC wins and 21 overall wins in his three seasons at Vandy. To put that in perspective, Bobby Johnson (one of our better coaches) had just 12 SEC wins in his 8 years there.

The big game is now next week at UT. A win by Vandy gives them back-to-back wins against UT for the first time since 1925-1926. A win by UT keeps their bowl hopes alive. I think this is a "pick-em" game, unlike last year's blowout in Nashville. UT is dangerous at home, while Vandy is just inconsistent in everything.

Just for context -- ever heard of Red Sanders?

I hadn't heard of him till I will doing research on Vandy's SEC wins. He was the last coach to get 10 SEC wins in three seasons, and that was back in the late 40's. UCLA apparently thought that was impressive and hired him after that, and he was their best coach in UCLA history.
