Default Jaguars - Titans gameday thread

We have a rare 3:05 game today against the Jags. If you go by history, the Titans should win this game. The Jags haven't won in Nashville since 2013 (the embarrassment of losing to an 0-8 team), and they haven't swept the Titans since 2006.

    Giveaway: Titans headband earmuffs (nice!)
12th Titan: Family of deceased superfan Matt Neely
    National Anthem: The Katinas
Halftime: Tennessee Titans Halftime Spirit Extravaganza

The weather is great for a late November game. It will be sunny and 54 degrees at kickoff. It will dip into the upper 40s when the sun goes down.

This is a must win game for the Titans, as the Jags are the only team left on the schedule with a losing record. A lot of our remaining opponents aren't very good, but the Titans have to prove themselves with this game first.

    Go Titans!!!

Silly of me to ask but is there a tailgate planned for today?

First and goal for the Titans after a tough third down conversion by Henry. Hopefully Tannehill's perfect streak stays intact.

Fumble ends the streak. Lewan being out hurt badly.

Creative play calling in the red zone. A pass by Henry had pass interference called, and Dennis Kelly caught the TD on first and goal on the one.

    14-3.

42-20 is the final. What a second half after it was 7-3 at halftime.

The offense is clicking. Still hate to see the fumbles, though. Third down defense wasn't very good either. But a great overall effort for the blowout!

Today's win was huge for the Titans and set them up for a run the final weeks of the season that pretty much allows them to control their own destiny and that's about all we can truly ask for, but this coaching staff concerns me.

Henry was killing the Jags today. They wanted no more of him and that's pretty much what the coaching staff gave them after his second score. He carried the ball one time in the fourth quarter. That's what a big back like Henry is for - to keep the chains moving and kill the clock in the process. Make them stop him. If your RB is sitting at 150 yards in the third quarter and they can't stop him, you keep rolling with him until they do. Instead, they got cute used end-arounds to Jonnu Smith, wasted a drive with Dion Lewis with 4:00 left to play, etc. Really? You have a 247 lb. back sitting 159 yards and you go with a scatback the rest of the way? Of course, just about any drive Lewis trots out for is a wasted drive anyway, but at this point in the game? They should have ran Henry until his tongue was hanging out because the Jags had no interest in stopping him at that point.

And the defense... I'm not sure if it was Dean Pees who made the call or if it was Vrable who overruled him, but whoever made the decision to come out in the second half and play soft zone and not give up the big play, needs their head examined. The clock's record is 0-0 all-time in games. It's never won or lost a game but there are plenty of coaches who have lost them because they let an opponent back into the game while they played the clock. The defense played well enough to hold them to a field goal forever. They attacked and played some great football. Then we got up by a few scores and decided to keep stuff in front of us. The Jags cut our lead in half in no time.

Yeah, the win was great but that kind of coaching will assure the team won't be in the playoffs at the end of the season. You can't play your way into the playoffs playing not to lose. It will bite you in the butt somewhere along the way. The Jags are 4-7 and play like it. The remaining teams on our schedule are a rough gauntlet. We can't coach dumb football and beat them.

Still, it was nice to see so much clicking today. Now if the coaching staff can stay out of the team's way they may have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs.
The Tennessee Titans - good for whatever ails you!

For you Jags haters out there, you will kick out of these facts:

This has been the worst three game stretch in Jaguars history. First time ever they have lost by 20+ points in three consecutive games, first time they have given up 699 rushing yards in three consecutive games, and 2nd time in team history the three losses were to division opponents (last time was 2000).
